Default hmmmmmmmm

ALL PRIVATE around Black Bayou. Only public land is the Sabine Refuge, and only certain acreage is public. This is very cliched, but if you don't know, don't go.....

Hunted in a lease on Black Bayou when I was a kid. Some of the best duck hunting of my life. Limit of ducks in 15 minutes(pintail, widgeon, greys) then go catch a limit of bass. I was spoiled to duck hunting back then. It was too easy. My uncle is still in the lease to this day and the hunting and fishing is horrible. Has been for the last 10+ years. Don't know what happened. They did lose some of the better areas but still.

i would assume the saltwater intrusion from the storms probably hurt the fishing... and i guess the duck hunting too...

There are 2 Black Bayou's. One south of Vinton and one south of LC.

One south of Vinton is almost all private.

Not sure about LC

That's what I figured when he said south of LC. I hunted Black Bayou south of Vinton.

Yep, one side is owned by Gray, other side by Sweetlake Land and Oil. From what I understand, hunting is good at times, but not great. You can hunt the bayou, no problem, just don't run a boat. You will see wood ducks out there every once in a while.

I grew up fishing the bayou. Used to be great bass fishing, nothing big, but a lot of good size eating bass, bream, goggle eye, etc. Rita pushed a lot of salt water in there and messed it all up. Back in 2009 or 2010, me and my PawPaw were hooking up redfish in there. I even talked to one guy when I was working out there last year that said he was catching specks.

I think it has started to rebound though. I've talked to guys that have caught bluegill and bass out of there, which is a good sign. Another couple of years and it may be just as good as it was back in the 90s and early 2000s. No Lacassine mind you, but good fun fishing.

Sabine island wildlife management area west of vinton. Has a lot of woodducks and squirrel. need boat and kayak or pirougue. paddle down sloughs, no telling what you will get.
