Default Tuner on F150

So I have a 2009 f150 platinum super crew cab 4x4 5.4L V8. I am upgrading to 35's and the truck has 3.55 gears. I'm going to try it with no other upgrades but I was looking in to getting a custom tune and a guy at stang hi in Baton Rouge says it won't make a difference unless I use 93 octane gas with an intake and an exhaust. I will be doing an exhaust maybe the intake but I don't want to use 93 octane gas.
My question is is he correct by saying that a tune for 87 octane (regular gas) will not make enough difference to matter?

Default Gears

How bout some new new gears, they don't care what kinda gas you run and they will defiantly give you better low end performance.
