Default Busy very busy

4 days Hope I can do this in one report.

Let the fish hit the decks kind of sums it up. The first day we drifted the lumps all I did was cut and chum all day while the customers were picking away at the fish. The Kings, Bonito, and sharks were keeping us as active as wewanted it. We found a couple of vermillion snappers.

As the day went on we managed 2 yellowfin, an almaco jack, and a limit of good size amberjack. We also caught and released several other amberjack and a red snapper.

Throw in 11 20-25pound blackfin and we came in with a box full of meat. We had a 70 and 75 pound amberjack. Was a great trip.

Day 2 was with a group on the Salty Cajun web site. This a local fishing and huntins site simular to CTFisherman. We drifted the lumps again and hit a shrimp boat and trolled for wahoo.

It was a day of rod bending for sure. One of our first fish on the lumps was this small yellowfin.

On the way to the lumps we hit a shrimp boat looking for a big yellow but the bonito and blackfin were thick. They did nothing but catch all day till they were looking for a rest. We trolled for wahoo on the way in and managed to stick a couple.

With the box full and ice getting low we decided to head to the barn.

These guys were so thankfull for a great day of catching that they had to pause and give thanks to the fish gods. Father Neptune I am sure will appreciate the offering.

1 aj, 2 wahoo, 3 yf, and 23 bf. Another great day.

Day 3 we decided to hit the shrimp boats and not even go near the lumps. Did not want a repeat of a day at the zoo. The word has gotten out that the lumps are on. We have been getting fish there but not as it has been in the past. We chummed up some blackfin from a shrimp boat and for some reason the fish must have thought we were the shrimper because they stayed with us for a 4 hour drift. We ended up 6 miles from the place we started.

The large blackfin kept us busy and after a while we picked up a yellow about 80 pounds. As the day went on Eddie was throwing blackfin back on a regular basis. We did not know a few customers were catching and keeping as we were throwing them back. Eddie had me go forward and be sure the fish were iced down. I came back and informed him we had an overload of fish and we used all available ice. We started heading in but on the way in he wanted to try for some wahoo. I told him if we caught a wahoo we could not fit it in the box. The front was full and we had 4 blackfin in the back box just laying on ice residue. We trolled 2 rigs with no results so he stopped the bait was brought in. While the X-RAP was just starting to be reeled in it got hit. Wahoo will do this regularly. When a trolled bait stops or changes speed it puts the whoos in attack mode. This was a good wahoo because it made 2 long runs and almost spooled the torsa 40 with 100 jerry brown solid. The setup had 60 frenzy floro and a snap swivel wired to the x-rap. 45 minutes to an hour into the fight we get color and see we have a big tuna not a wahoo.

Now we have a big problem All the blackfin have to come out an our other yellowfin has to be turned so we can fit this hog in the box to get the iced water on it. I ended filling the front box of the contender and had 12 blackfin in the back box with just residue ice in it. At the dock it was nuts.

30 blackfin and 2 nice yellows. The big boy was 155 pounds.

Day 4 High winds and seas forecast and all but us canceled. We were limited to trolling only and could only work a small area. The seas were bouncy, the people were wet, the fish were found. We had a rough time hooking the fish and landed 5 while loosing about 8. we also landed 4 blackfin in the 20 pound class. The guys we had loaded the boat with blacks yesterday with another captain so we threw all 4 blackfin tuna back. One of the wakoo was attacked by a baracuda on the surface which was a sight to see. We got a head and maybe a chunk of meat out of that deal. Do not have any pictures but our big wahoo went 82 pounds.

Got some time off due to weather. No more reports for a while so get your gear ready and go fishing yourself.
