Default Specks in the surf 8/25/2010

Went with Gerald to Johnson Bayou to catch some Specks in the surf.
We caught 17 Specks and 6 Reds. Caught a few on small Spooks, the
rest were caught on soft plastics. I caught most of mine on opening
night colored Bombers. Caught 2 that were 2 lbs. and 1 that was 2.5
lbs. Water was a lot better looking than yesterday but it was smokey
due to the fires in the Sabine. Going back in the morning.
Fished next to Spectator and his friend. Marsh Boy fished with me and
Gerald most of the morning. It was a good day, but we found out
where they were too late in the morning. Left around 11 am.

I forgot about a minor issue I had this morning.
First hit I had, when I set the hook, I didn't have
my reel tightened down to the reel seat good. I
set the hook and the reel fell off the rod, into the
water. Talk about wake you up. I reeled her in
with the reel in my hands and my rod under my
arm. Glad she wasn't very big.
Had to pull the reel apart and clean her up tonight.

Ray and I will be there at daylight.

Early topwater bite just did not happen for me. I used Topdog, Shedog, Mirrodine, and Catch 2000. I only had one bump in the first hour+.

First cast with soft plastic.......~ 15" Trout........that got off as I was I was grabbing the net.

I caught 4 of the 7 keeper size Reds that I caught in one spot,,,,stand 10' from the shore.

I had 5 Trout and 5 Reds on the stringer.

Hope to do better in the morning.......if the smoke is not too bad. About an hour before we left, either the wind shifted a little or the fire got worse because the smoke really started getting bad.

Here are a few pic. from today. I guess the 2 guys on the rocks didn't lessen to our advise. Word is that they caught a few while out there.

Part 2:
Me and Marsh Boy was fishing and decided to move East. After we went
from one set of rocks to the other, I looked back and saw a float about
100 yards back. I looked around and figgered out it was my stringer...

I walked back and the brass tip had sank down, the fish were all still there.
