Searching for Reds

Are reds being caught on artificial bait this time of year (spoons, doa shrimp, etc) or just live/frozen??

Is there somewhere in Lake Charles/Prien Lake I could go to get some? I have a boat, but not one that I wanna bring to Big Lake to fish at the weirs or jetties or anything.

My grandfather helped me get the boat, so I'm trying to get him on some decent fish...just LOST when it comes to fishing there. I have a steel trailer, so I launch in the fresh and run the rest of the way. I'd probably do better with him fishin' a cork over a shrimp or doa or whatever. I have an anchor I can throw out and tie on, so that's a possibility.

Any advice?
