Mods may move this thread but I believe it will get more play here than the Conservationsist forum.
After some investigation, I have come to the conclusion that we are waisting our time trying to deal with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.
The Oyster Task FARCE that everyone cites as working for the resource is actually a group of like minded individuals put together to promote, market and harvest of all things "OYSTERS". These folks could care less about the resources in Calcasieu Lake. I have listed the website for their group below and you will find several individuals on it from our end of the state with connections to WLF and one commercial interest on the lake.
I do believe anyone we speak with in Baton Rouge will talk the "Company Line" from their prepared notes without deviation. IMO, they don't have any biological information from Calcasieu Lake to support the harvest numbers that has taken place in the past or future. I believe all interested in the future of the lake should redirect our efforts to the Louisiana Legislative Department of Natural Resources Board. They are our legislators in Baton Rouge and would love to hear from us on this issue.

The Department of Natural Resources might be a good starting point for us also, hear is their website and contact information.

I just spoke to him, seemed like a real stand up guy who is concerned about what is going on with the lake. He is working from his end.
Just a reminder, please treat these people with respect when you get to talk to them.

LDWF knows the East side of Big Lake has been raked clean.
The East side is the only side with fat oysters, so not as many are dredging the West Cove.
If they know, why don't they shut it down for 3 or 4 years and let them replentish themselves.

Heck, I didn't realize it, but the Senate Chairman was one of my baseball coaches and ended up marrying a girl I grew up with. I will give him a shout and see what I can find out.

May be a stupid question, but who sets the limits and the method of taking oysters?

is the season and method of take set by law or LDWF?
There is an Oyster Commission/Task Force/Board that takes advice from LDWF biologist.
Basically LDWF sets seasons and limits.
Most of the time commissioners on any commission are people who are in that line of business.
