Went out on 2 overnighters last week on my off hitch, first trip was thursday and friday, left the dock and headed south fished brutus and genisis with medheavy as part of the crew, picked up 2 yft for the 2 new guys on board, but the fish just werent there, friday we headed north and stumbled upon a reef that went from 480ft up to 260, with 20-40 ft deep holes in it, we got on hammer snapper and some grouper, smallest snapper going 18 pounds, largest going 25 along with three different grouper species and a red porgey and some chicken dolphin
great day.
got back to the dock cleaned the boat and rounded up a new crew for sat and sunday, headed back out saturday with 2 new green horns. picked up a bunch of Blackfin as usual, but no real marks at brutus, so we headed to a newly installed rig,
some blackfin showing up but we were low on live bait so decided to move again to a rumored big fish rig,
we found her on radar and headed to her, got there to find yft hitting the surface, but only picked up 1 yft and a bunch of blacks, so we settled in for our night fishing pattern picking up bft and napping.
at daylight we put our last 2 live bait down and in 1 minute it was double hook up, i could tell mine was a bft, so i got him in quick because we knew we had a good fish on the line. and he was a fighter, so we strapped the greenhorn in and it was on. he fought for 1.5 hours before he got it to the boat and we drifted for 2 miles,
i was able to get in the water and video and swim with this beautiful 95 pound yft, AMAZING!!!!!!!
stopped at the reef again but only picked up some "small snapper" in the 14-16 pound range so we headed north and picked up some more decent snapper at some south tim rigs and headed in, over all a great experience and a great time
