Volunteers Needed

Planting Marsh Grasses to Restore Wetlands



The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is looking for volunteers to help plant smooth cordgrass along the shoreline of East Moss Lake on August 9 & 10, 2011. This project is in partnership with the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration (OCPR) and the Gulf Coast Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) as part of the OCPR/NRCS/SWCD Coastal Re-vegetation Program. The objective of this project is to reduce shoreline erosion, protect fragile interior marsh, and create wildlife habitat.

Volunteers must be 14 year of age or older.
Where:
Volunteers will meet at the Calcasieu Point Landing, 3955 Henry Pugh Road, Lake Charles, LA


When:
Tuesday, August 9th and Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 7:30 AM


What to Bring:


This volunteer effort requires planting in knee-high to waist-deep water. Rubber boots or old tennis shoes are recommended. Comfortable clothes that can get dirty will be needed (a change of clothes and towel for the end of the day is also recommended).

Lunch will be provided.
