Water in Big Lake today is more stained looking vs. muddy looking, and has a very brown color to the water.

Water was very good today. We had a good bite all morning. Still no birds. I saw a few gulls behind a shrimp boat in the middle of big lake....which i don't think i have ever seen a shrimp boat in the middle of big lake until today....but i'm not quite sure that counts for birds lol.

I was asking myself the same question. And it wasn't just a little butterfly boat or a carolina skiff with a shrimp trawl. It was a full on shrimp boat. Looked just like the Jenny off of Forrest Gump lol.

She was in the lake yesterday also. It's been probably 35 years since I've seen a full on shrimp boat in the lake.

shrimp boat in lake means they gonna lose all there nets to reefs.....Must not know whats down there...

There are no more oysters on the East side of the lake.
I know shrimpers who drag in the lake with 50 ft. boats.
Skimmers usually hit the banks between T-Boys weirs and Grand Bayou weirs.
It is not unusual, but there are not a lot that drag in the lake.
They push butterfly nets in the Old River area and drag in the channel and catch more.

I have heard stories from before my time from family members about when it was a common site to see many large shrimp boats dragging the lake. In my years of fishing the lake, yesterday was the first one I've ever seen. I'm no marine biologist but it seems that in such a shallow water body, a boat that size dragging a net could actually do some damage to oyster reefs. I know for a fact that the location I saw it yesterday was over oysters....it was one of my favorite fishing holes :/ it looked like it was using butterfly nets, but even if it was, that size boat still drafts a lot for such shallow water.
