Okay Guys,

We all had this dispute about big fish and keeping them. Let's start it up again. No childish arguements, just cold hard facts. Lets get some info, from the experts. Lets see what a little research will do.

the more i do research on this topic it seems like the less i really understand it all. i will share some of the sources i found interesting.

Well my outlook on the deal is in TROUT fishing…..Big trout are not your producers!!! Most trout 14inch and below are the ones that build your trout population…..There are 1000 more 14inch trout and smaller than 20inch trout….
On the other hand I hardly keep anything over 4lbs due to the fact is I don’t like to eat them!!! It’s a good duty also to let a large female go!!! I have already had 3 trout tagged over 20inch caught this year!!! 2 months after I tagged them and they all were healty!!!:smokin:

i really believe that if a person wants to keep a fish, keep the dern thing, but if you catch a 12 pound bass one cast and a 10 the next cast, throw the 10 back and keep you some 2's for meat.......same for trout! it's absurd to think that catch and release cannot work for inshore saltwater fishing when it's been a major tool in the freshwater fisheries in our country for years. Also look at the billfish stocks, this mentality has saved the sport.

Yea Jeremy you are right. Our little fish are the producers. But hey next time you catch a 4 or 5 lb trout, bring it to my house and I promise you I have a recipe that will make you drool.

Well NMF pisses me off. Last year I worked for a capt. in Venice and we had our snapper limit in 10 minutes, and ll snapper around 10-20lbs. Everyday, never missed a beat.

Seriously salty, I have never caught a sac a lait. All my buddies over here keep saying they are gonna take me and they never do. Ill trade a duck hunt for a sac a lait trip.

ride down highway 14 stop at that little gas station in hayes pick ya up a bucket of shiners and go fish em under a poppin cork in the canals along the side of the bank in lacassine, we used to smoke the sac a lait and GA GA LA in the burns also.....

aint been down there in forever........

Yep, get fool to take ya. That lil bastage can catch a fish. He, too, lives on the "I-12 Corridor".

In my opinion, the best eating reds are between 15 and 18 inches. I won't keep any over 25 at all. Of course here in Texas you can't keep any in that range, so I just fill up my freezer when I'm in La. No, I no longer keep 15 inchers. Wouldn't be good for a guy with the last name Law to break the law. The best eating trout are 14-20 inches. I won't keep any over 22, not that I catch many over 22. I usually catch trout on accident when I'm fishing for reds.

Well according to my uncle, who is the marine biologist in charge of specks for ldwf, if the really big trout are released they don't have a good chance of survival. Not that that matters to me cause i dont catch many big ones in v. bay. I don't keep any reds over 33" or so cause they taste to strong. Those are the ones that spawn anyway so its good to throw them back i think

If a catch a big trout its going on my wall, i dont trout fish much, I keep big reds during the winter time, i hardly red fish during the summer, the only way i will keep a bass bigger than 4lbs is if its bleeding real bad( i still will try to revive it in the livewell) or if im getting it mounted, replicas just arent the same
