I've been thinking about getting one of the two mentioned kayaks and at this point I'm undecided. It will be my first yak, and I want something that will do it all. What do you guys think? Thanks for any advice!

I have the prowler 13 basic model... Trident looks to be an upgrade to that model. Depends on what you need it for. glides and tracks well. can get into skinny water easily. Havent stood in it and prolly wont try.

The only problems i have had are it being sort of a wet ride. Its low profile can get ya. Gotta have scuppers or the butt stays wet.

I dont know much about the other kayak. sorry bout that, but overall i am satisfied with the ocean kayak.

I'd like to take it in the surf at the beach, and still be able to stand up in it when in the marsh. I thought the Ocean Kayaks would glide well, thanks for the info. The KC kayaks are made in Baton Rouge and seem extremly stable, but im not sure how they take waves.

I have two friends with the trident 13s they both stand and fish in them. And i dont know first hand but ive been told that the Kcs paddle like a board.

Between the Ocean or the KC, grab the Ocean. Before your purchase, contact your local dealer and attend a Demo Day. Paddle and stand in everything you can before buying.

I highly recommend a Hobie with the Mirage Drive. Fishing is soo much easier when your legs are keeping you moving and your hands are free to fish and adjust the rudder. I have a Outback and PA12, and could stand in either. To start off in the sport many have went with the Outback and never had any regret. It is very versatile and you can find used ones just over a grand.

Not to put one forum over another, but you may want to read up on the bckfc.org forum about kayak fishing. We can assist with any kayak related questions or take you out as a guest if you ask.

Good luck!!

I have the ok prowler 13 and stand all the time. I wish it had a flat surface for standing like the Jackson's but it works fine for now. It is a wet ride easily fixed by a seat pad.bassyakr and I made a trip to the surf last month and it was rough and I was caught sideways between some big surf and didn't flip.
I saw a prowler on lake Charles craigslis for sale paddle and all $750.

Btw if you have to pedal it its a peddleboat not a kayak.;)

Had an OK Prowler 13 and still wish I did. Great paddling boat and very stable for it's width. Don't discount the Kajun Kayak, though. It paddles slower, and it's high sides make it wind-resistant. But you can add a trolling motor and overcome all those issues. BTW, I see more KC yaks in freshwater than salt.
