Red Tuna

We had a great day today fishing with Capt. Mike Jennings from Cowboy Charters. Our goal was to get a limit of amberjack and hopefully find some shrimpboat tuna, and Capt. Jennings delivered on both counts.
We started the day off in very choppy seas that made for a rough and long ride out. We scored 20 blue runners and headed deep to an AJ spot.
The first AJ spot yielded one AJ before we started to get worked over by 'cudas and breakoffs in structure. A quick run to a nearby rig paid off, as we finished off our limit of nice AJs in less than an hour.

We had heard that no shrimpboats were in deep water, and that was almost true...we found one in 220' of water. It had a small school of bonita under it, and apparently just 3 blackfin....and we caught 2 of them. We didn't see any other anchored boats in deep water, but we saw a few headed out, so this coming week may be better.

We finished off the day at a beeliner spot...we caught about 5 gallons of beeliners and a few small almaco jacks before heading in.

All in all a great day on the water with Cowboy Charters! Thanks to Capt Jennings and Coty for a great day.
