My father-in-law went to Pecan Island on SUN morning to check out his buddies lease and he was suprised at how few ducks he saw. They got out to the lease about 8:00am. Only saw 1 flock of teal and several pair of mottle ducks. I have not checkout our lease in Kaplan yet. Our land owner will have it ready by the middle of next week.

Took a ride out to Miami Corp thru the Latania Lake cut and around Lake Misere and didn't see much. The boat I was in has a loud exhaust and usually scares them up also nothing around the refuge around Lacassine Bayou

Had about 500 holding on our lease last weekend mostly teal, mallards and greys with a few pintail but I would imagine they have moved some with all of the rain. I can't remember having this much rain in October and would anticipate a poor first part of the season due to the fact that with all of this water they can go where they want to avoid hunting pressure.

I agree. I hope it does not rain for at least another 30 days or more.

Yulp I have been eye balling those too. I saw a large group on little cheneir road yesterday, those just showed up.

I'm not seeing to many birds on the west side of the river, mainly on the
east.

( I think the flyway has shifted that way anyway.)

And. East Geauydon has got some Speckelbellys.

I was fishing and shrimping a couple of weeks ago in the Calcasieu River just north of Big Lake and around 7:00am I had a canvasback and 2 mallards(drake and hen) flyright over the boat. I live in Montgomery off the Red River and have been seeing a few groups. My trigger finger is starting to shake some, it's wanting to put a couple of greenies down. I hope the water goes down. The Red River is very swollen and it doesn't look like the rain is going to let up anytime soon. Luckily my blind goes on my boat so there is not a lot of prep work I have to do.:shaking:

Quackhead, I love that avatar. I'm hoping to get a mount done similar to that except I wanna use a wood duck.

Thanks longsidelandry, that one was for a customer about a year ago. I tinker with taxidermy on the side a little, and cat daddy, as far as how much did i get, i am glad i have a day job. We didn't get much that day. It was the first cool front we had, but net enough to push them out of the marshes. This front may have enough if they have not already pulled out. I shrimp with a 24 foot trawl behind a aquasport 22'. Size was good mediums with very few sea bob's

quack head, what would you charge me for a woodduck mount

QUACKHEAD

You can't find a local guy there to do it yak?? I usually do them for 200 plus any extra's such as habitat greenery. That price is duck on redriver drift wood.

I'd get it in a sitting or resting position yak, that way all the colors show out and the gold feathers should be pulled up next to the wing. not sure how to add pictures to the message or I would send a couple I'v done.

what i want to do is get him standing on 1 leg on a log and have his back wing kicked up, with his head back preening himself
and then next year get a female put in the hole of the log he is on

That is a good setting as you are talking about. I get people wanting the old fly by, but it just doesn't show the colors as it should. but you have to give the customer what he wants.

On the setting you are looking for it would be advisable to look for the drift wood you are looking for. When you are looking for the perfect setting, it is hard to find the perfect natural base. I usually keep all my unique pieces for my regular customers and high rollers. They are hard to come by. You can always have the drake mounted first and add him to a new setting when you are ready to have the hen added.

Went rode to the blind in Whiteville Monday. Good numbers of ducks and specks in the fields. Tuesday went to my woody hole in Oakdale. More woodies than you can point a barrell at.
