Toro ZTR

I have a Toro ZTR riding lawnmower. The idler pulley recently went out and I lost forward and reverse while cutting grass. I got the new pulley and replaced it. I put the belt back in place and started the mower. It started, but still no forward or reverse. Put it up for the day and revisited the issue, and now it won't start at all. Got gas, fire and compression, but the motor will not start. I have also checked fuses and wiring. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! :help:

Make sure you check all of your safety switches, like make sure blade switch is off, switch under the seat, and make sure your steering arms are all the way out. Check your safety crap first.

It sounds like it's turning over to me, I thought those switches would keep it from turning over not keep it from starting. Well at least that's how it is on my Hustler.

my exmark has the same safety switches and mine wont even turn over if anything isnt right. if its turning over, all the switches are good.

What motor does it have?

Motor is a Kohler. And yes, it is turning over. I did have a bad fuse and replaced that as well. Just won't start.

Any idea of what the fuse was for? Have you tried hitting it with a quick shot of starter fluid just to see if it'll fire up? I'm assuming you are verifying spark by pulling the plug and grounding it. How are you verifying fuel? Does yours have a choke lever or is it auto-choke?

Not sure what the fuse was for. Have not tried the starter fluid, and I have pulled the plugs to check fire. The fuel filter has gas in it, and the choke is full throttle.

when you checked for fire what color was the spark? red/yellowish or blue?

Don't really remember.

If the spark was yellowish then the spark isnt hot enough to ignite the fuel mixture. That will indicate an ingnition issue.

Do you smell gas while trying to crank it like it's flooded? Sounds like you have a plugged jet in the carb and the fuel isn't getting to the motor, however odd that it started the other day then this. If you smell fuel then the float's probably stuck in the carb and flooding out the motor. I would think you would have mentioned smelling fuel though if that was the case. It would stink pretty good.
