Caps on hub?

Do any of you'll use the cap with the black rubber insert to cover your bearings? Are they good? Or, should I go with just a metal cap? The spindle has a grease zert to lube the bearings. So, I don't need the buddy bearings. I noticed one of the rubbers was just about ready to tear. This is why I'm questioning if they are any good. I've never used this type of cap before (came with the boat). Any help is appreciated.

Ive got em but have only had em for a year so dont really have any long term insight but they appear to work

plain metal work better. for some reason that lil rubber insert just doesnt stay in on mine. i would get the buddy bearings still. they keep constant pressure on the bearing not letting water in. they really dont cost that much and work awesome.

I agree on the buddy bearings. When I bought my boat I changed each bearing on all 4 tires and put buddy bearings on them. Just a couple pumps and she's back in business

sorry to hyjack but i have the oil bath hubs do you have to change the oil in these?

not unless it is leaking and you need to add some. most manufactures will void the warranty if they see you opened them. i remember someone saying the oil is good for 4 or 5 hundred thousand miles.

i got those on mine, and the day i brought it home, i lost two. went bought some more and lost three. they were tight going in. don't know what happened.

Put some buddy bearings on there and you will be good to go. Becareful pumping buddys up. Once you see the spring move stop pumping. People are famous for doing more harm with buddy bearings as they pump them up every trip or so and blow out the rear seal.

As for the oil hubs. I think they are the worse trailer item ever made! You are on the interstate going 65 and one leaks the oil out and your bearings are fried in minutes as with grease it stays put for awhile longer. Most places will not even service them down here unless they can drain the oil and put grease instead

I bought a trailer ~ 6 years ago with the rubber cap. I have not had any problems with the rubber cap. I put in new bearing and seals ~ 2 years ago......and reused the rubber caps.

I used the buddy bearing for many years with no problems. With Buddy bearing all you have to do is just add a few shots of grease every few trips. The rubber cap.....not as easy to take off and reinstall....a little messy.

You talking bout ones like thiis? Thjey are used for oil bath, but some dealers use them on greased axles with the zerts. The oring can crack, might try to put Parker O-lube on it to help prevent the o-ring from cracking

Mfg. is Kodiak, I had to replace mine after someone tried to steal my aluminum rims. tthey did not know they screwed off and tried to pop them off and broke them.

sorry for the thread hijack as well, but I have a question about the oil bath hubs as well....I had no idea what they were when I bought the boat....so I filled them with grease instead. Does this work well with that type of hub or should I change them to a "grease specific" hub? they've been greased for almost a year now without any problems, but I'd like to do it right.
