Okay well being that i have my boat now i can duck hunt on the river from it. well i really dont want to buy a boat blind being since they are $$$ so would it be easy to build one, if so can someone kinda tell me how? i have a idea in mind, but just want to see if there is another way.

or would building a permanent blind be easier? id rather have a pop up blind so i could move around. and i dont want other hunting my blind.

Fool, some 1/2 inch PVC, camo material and a little ingenuity can make you a great boat blind. I made one years ago and it worked out great.

i was thinking-

taking the hinges off of a table (colapsable leg hinges) and screwing them to pvc pipe, camo material, and i got a blind. now i just got to figure how to attach to my boat.

Fool, I have never built one before but I think I got an idea that may help you. Build your frame out of the 1/2" PVC. Get either 4 pieces of 3/4" pvc or even 4 vertical rod holders and install them on your boat. You could install them so that they can be taken off and on. Slide your 4 legs in and put some sort of cotter pin in each leg so they won't come out while travelling. May be a good idea.

never though of th rod holders! that just completed my idea dude.

awesome thanks. the hinge to colapse the blind would make easier for running.

AWESOME i got me a blind now..

now i just got to see if the area i am gunna be hunting is legal to hunt on...(its on public accesable water.

thanks for the link, that one seems complicated.....

im thinking of

mounting rod holders and sticking about a 6 in peice of pvc out of it.
at top of pvc, mount a hinge.
mounted to the hinge is a pvc pipe going up to desired length.
then at end of pvc stick one of those connectors.
stick another pvc pipe into connector.
then do the same steps (1,2,3) for the front of the boat and then you have one side complete (frame)

then i do same steps for other side of boat. and either use burlap (i will be hunting kinda wooded area) or use brushing (bought some at wally world for like 15 bucks for 5 ft. )

is this a decent idea?

If you are going to use PVC to make a frame........I strongly suggest using 3/4" size pipe at least for the supports legs. Using 1/2" schedule 40 [white] is just too light weight. Maybe the schedule 80 [thicker pipe] in the gray color.....a 1/2" diameter might be ok. You might be able to buy 3/4" white cheeper than 1/2" gray. Don't glue all the fitting together.....unless you have some place to store the frames during the off season.

I also suggest you plan on 3 supports on each side.

To keep your boat more versital.....so you can hunt and fish without doing a lot of work to remove your "Blind".....you might consider making a PVC pipe frame that you can just set into your boat. Maybe for your 14' boat....make two seperated frames, about 5' or 6' long and 3' wide and what ever height you decide it needs to be. If you plan on extending the boat blind up near the front....these legs would be shorter to sit up on the front deck. These would be easy to put in the boat to go hunting and to take out when not needed. To "attach" the frame to the boat...use bungie cords. You could hook one end to a boat rib and then after stretching the bungie, make a mark on the PVC pipe where you could drill a small hole to attach the cord hook to the pipe.

Then attach the blind material [maybe with some velcro] to the pipe frame and let it hang over the side of your boat. Along the bottom of the blind materal attach a pole [cane pole ??] to weight it down some and to give you something so you can roll up the material for storage or when traveling in the boat.

Are you planning to cover some or most of the top to better hide from the ducks? If so, you could just attach a pole to both ends and "drape" the blind materal over the frame. This would be quick and easy to set up.

Hope I wrote this so you understand......If not, I would be glad to talk with you to better explain.

Gerald i appreciate it. I understand what you told me. That just gave me even more ideas...i was going to use the thicker pvc (grey) the white is to flemsy.

thanks!

I didnt have any problems with mine just have to drill the holes for the pins to the size you want it to be open on top. and put a matt of grass between you and your hunting buddy.

okay thanks, it doesn't look like a bad idea.did you have any issues on finding the parts?

it will be on a 15' 48 boat so im sure we will have plenty of room. would just be me and another guy (3 max)

man we use to do real good with the woodies on little river right by cypress lake that river goes along way back in the woods. we had a blind we made on the side of there we would do pretty good at daybreak. that was about 10 years ago but i would imagine its all the same. not to far from you either

Ok here it is. I built my own pop up blind nyself. I used 3/4 inch galvinized pipe. For one cheap pipe will bow in the middle. Then I got some old troll net. I wrapped the troll net around some small pvc pipe and connected it along the railings of ny boat with screws. Then o took the pipe to home depot and used one of their pipe benders to make the corners of my blind. I had them measured how high I wanted the blind off my boat. Also u don't want you railings to hang over the side the boat to much or it will drag in the water. Once I bent my pipes I used small pieces of angle iron the attach at the middle of the bow and on back of boat. Once that was in place I wrapped the troll net from the side the boat up to the frame of my blind. Thw net helps hold the grass out off the boat. Attached a rope from each side of blind to hold up in place witha clip. A good tip with a boat blind is that even though you have a pop up blind extra brush or cover is best. Especially a foot or two over the blind because I find that ducks get a lil cautious of just a plain pop up blild. I always added cover around the bottom of boat at top of blind to break up the outline and to make shadows. The best thing to do is when you find a spot you like make a lil brush pile to pull into and pop up ur blind.

hey fool, your getting good advice from some of the guys here, I built two before I got it right. use the 3/4 inch at least I wouldn't use anything smaller. Don't try to make a long side run that holds the camo, when it gets wet, and it will duck hunting, you will want it strong. I would go about every 2 feet with a support from the top to the floor. Also the cane (or painted pvc)on the bottom is very good idea, cause the wind blows a lot during season. also a cheap piece of brown or green material lining the inside will help as a wind break. I also used black wire ties once I got the material inplace and cut slits along the upright and horizontal poles and tied it in place. this helped hold it in place on the windy days. I hope this helps with your project. If I ever build another one I will use 1 inch all over. I know you are in south La but when the temp drops below freezing the pvc will get brittle. Any weight (someone leaning on a pole) and SNAP! SPLASH! not good during duck season.
