Have had much more flight activity in the rice fields here in surrounding Lacassine area. I wish everyone a safe and plentiful season.

To me ducks and geese are kinda like the difference between salt water and fresh water fishin. Anybody can go to big lake, throw some shrimp, and catch at least some kind of fish. So ducks are similar in that all you need is some water and some decoys and you will kill some kind of duck. Now geese, on the other hand, are like bass. You gotta work your but off to figure out weather pattern, decoy/bait presentation, calling/ bait working, alot more factors go into it. And most times they still decide they dont like it if you arent perfect. So personally I find killing geese to be more gratifying than ducks mainly because it requires more effort and skill, much like bass fishing.
Thats my analysis, any thoughts?

totally agree. I find your comparison similar... but either can be argued! I work harder for geese. I have thrown a robo duck in a cow pasture and killed ducks before.

not saying anything about your calling so you don't take it the wrong way. I agree totally with the comparison, but if you can call that's alot of it. I personally can call specks really well and have had them land within a foot of the blind not bragging at all. Also if you have more than one good caller with specks it's amazing what you can make them suckers do. Lcd really looking forward to swapping a hunt with you this season. I'm like you i love to hunt ducks don't get me wrong, but hunting specklebellies is where it's at hands down.

You just further made my point. You have to know what the hell you are doin with a goose call, takes lots practice. Anyone can blow a duck call (just about). And for the record I aint no chump on the speck call either lol. Lookin forward to a trip as well.

Awwwwwww! You little SOB! You get to youth hunt. Lucky!

huntin fool 11-04-2011 01:38 PM

IMO, ducks are harder to work for, being if you get away from the topwaters, etc. And I much prefer to walk a rice field than a marsh lol.

Tricking into your spread, I'd say geese are harder.

Shoot my blind is like the mojave desert right now, there is no walking. Drive the 4 wheeler to the blind and unload, dog fetches the birds. We are very spoiled.

SULPHITE 11-04-2011 01:41 PM

cadillac ricefield hunters! LOL!
