I've ridden on a couple boats with them. Seems to be great motor! Think they finally got all the kinks out of them. 1st & 2nd generation verados weren't that great.

Montauk in 3.....2......1....

simplepeddler 05-11-2010 05:25 PM

it's absolutely possible but not sure it is consistently possible.

Right conditions, right prop, right load, right motor height, right amount of trim, right everything.....

That is just too much for me to think about as a simpleton.
I just want to enjoy a day a fishing these days.

I agree 100%. The new ones on the market are great motors. Mercury is also very good with the warranty on these engines. If yall did not know, porche is the one that designed it. The power steering is my favorite part, feels like a caddy. :D

Yamaha performance reports show 60 mph with an F250. Like you say, if EVERYTHING is perfect on the test day 70 mph would be possible with an EMPTY boat.

My bluewave ran 65 with 1/8 tank of gas, Only trollin motor and 3 batteries. 2 people. Flat calm on the causeway.
Yammy 225 4 stroke, 8 inch bobs.
The jackplate gave me another 4 mph.
I would def believe a 300 verado would run 70 mph with the lightest of loads.

I believe that George Haydel at Metro has one (Black with Grey deck) with a 300 Vrat that is running high 60s to 70...

Weight distribution is a wonderful thing. Boat buyers are misinformed alot by dealers. You go in and they tell you a boat does 60 and when you get out its 10mph slower. The numbers are on an empty boat. When you go and demo a boat bring some friends and see what it does when shopping. 70 is possible with that boat setup right. jack plates and a worked prop are wonderful things!

I had the opportunity to fish 4 people in Bruce's BlackJack and with the 250 SHO we were able to hit 58 with 4 people and all of our gear. I have one on order and it should be delivered in about 2 weeks.

Nice, you are gonna enjoy that boat....
That new SHO will put the OPTI-OBAMA out of buisness.....

lavocat 07-10-2010 12:55 PM

Yeah that SHO is fine. I can't wait for it to hurry and get here. I am boatless for the first time in 26 yrs and I don't like it. It is great that I sold my old Kenner but not that I have to spend two weeks boatless. Withdrawal is setting in.
