They sure spent a lot of money stocking it with Florida Bass and other species, to let it just dry up, waterfowl and other birds won't stop either at Lacassine Desert.

I hunted in the pool after Hurricane Andrew. We had to use a small aluminum boat with a 5 hp Go-Devil. No outboards could run except in the main ditches.

When I gator hunted in there, the woman that ran the refuge thought more of the fishermen than the hunters.
She hated hunters, but they had to open it for gators cause there were so many. In 6 years, I saw 2 nutria, 0 Muskrats and Otters.
Some gators were 6' long and only weighed 45 lbs. There was nothing for them to eat except each other.

rollers

If it was built for just a bird sanctuary why did they install rollers on the original levees? They also allow duck hunting south of the intracoastal.

Laccasine's management is probably the worst of all our federal reserves! The Feds don't want the hunters or fishermen out there because it causes work for them and federal employees dread work!
