I would like to see that 100 yard cast :*****:

I've been using braid/flurocarbon leader exclusively for over ten years and haven't seen an increase in pulled hooks. If you're pulling hooks, your drag is too tight or you're trying to horse them in. The only increases I have seen by using braid are increased feel and deeper hooksets.

Even with TW? I find it easier to work a TW bait with mono than braid... I do use suffix braid w/ a fluro leader for almost everything else though

P-line 15lb test here

flounder_smacker 06-10-2011 10:17 AM

Y'all must be using hollow line cause my mono sinks way faster than braid. I use 20lb powerpro for top and 12lb pline for everything else.

think thats my route from now on too...

your gonna laugh but I've had good success with cajun line 12lb...

I like pline flouro/mono mix but it kept breaking on me during casts??? Montauk mentioned that the reel spray I use may be causing it to turn brittle...

swithced to cajun line and have liked it...it holds up good and doesn't have bad memory

Yes really. I must not be a serious trout fisherman. I do, however, know how to set my drag!

I use sufix 832 for single hook lures. Topwater or suspending baits I use good ole stren original. I prefer the extra stretch with mono for treble hook lures.

Maybe 100 yards is a slight exaggeration, but i can cast it about 20% further than mono with my Citica and Curado.

jchief 06-10-2011 06:56 PM

12 lb big game. Using it for years. For freshwater jigs/carolina I use braided. Not saltwater.

yeah i sprayed reel magic on the pline last year and it made it brittle and broke a lot. after a few break offs i look at the can and in little red letters it says no fluorocarbons.

I had a buddy say the exact same thing.. I told him to tie on a she dog. He threw it as far as he could. I tied on a rebel POP R, the medium series. Weighs a fraction of a she dog.

My 7ft bucoo\ citica with 10 lb mono, can outcast his braid. And he's no rookie in the world of fishing.

Regardless, everyone has opinions and preferences, but I stick to mono. I had one rod with 60 lb braid for jigs and frogs. And thats all.

Thanks Gerald, going pick up some right now. I don't use braid anymore. We use either PLine or Trilene 10-15lb test. 12lb test on specks with a 15lb leader off the cork. 15 all the way on reds. 10lb on bass.

Montauk17 06-12-2011 06:46 PM

10lb for bass? Yall must not have any underwater snags, fishing in the basin I use a min of 14lb. In the real thick stuff up to 20lb.

Kenner18 06-12-2011 06:52 PM

I used Big Game 15 lb for years but switched to Yo zuri hybrid a few years ago . I am very pleased with it so far.

Yeah we have underwater snags but I like the sensitivity of it and the ability to cast kinda far. This is only for worms and small spinnerbaits. We use 12 on big spinnerbaits and crankbaits. We don't catch monsters.

fishinpox 06-12-2011 10:39 PM

20 lb pp with 15 lb fluro leader for everything except topwater . Topwater I use straight 20 lb pp braid . I hate the strech of mono . I fish with the drag really really loose. I use my thumb the control the amount of line I allow a fish to take . Mono is poo poo

Yeah you may be right. I would start using braid again if it proved its worth to me. Or I could actually afford it.
