Like Kenner, I am a fire chief and was at work. Several people called and told us to turn on the TV a plane had hit one of the towers. When the second plane hit, the phone calss were endless. Most of the day from about 1100 on is a blur. We were in conference calls, planning in case something happened in our area.

It was my first semester at T.H. Harris in Opelousas. First class of the morning. Watched a small TV in a teachers office after the first plane hit. School shut down after that and second plane hit before I made it home.

I had just finished a bicycle ride. As I was putting my bike away, some doves flew by and I grabbed my shotgun I kept in the shop and fired. Missed of course.
My wife came running outside yelling "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK." I said no, I was just shooting at some doves, and she explained what had happened.

I was in my senior year at LSU. My room-mate woke me up that morning before class saying a plane crashed into the tower. We watchd the news for a while. When I got out of class, the news was spreading like wildfire of a second & third plane crash and us being "under attack"

Very uneasy feeling.

At a meeting in Belle Chasse, LA for ConocoPhillips....needless to say they made all vistors leave.

I was at work at the "evil empire" Enron. Remember getting a call from my mom telling me to get out of the building and go home - just then one of my colleagues switched the station on the tv and my stomache dropped. We evacuated the building as there was some speculation on what additional targets there might have been.

Remember it like it was yesterday.

Amazing that I can still remember that exact day 10 years ago.

I was safety/compliance manager at Talen's Marine & Fuel and was scheduled for a USCG inspection of a new facility we were opening up in Cameron. I was about to depart Lake Arthur and drive to Cameron to meet inspectors when everything started happening. About 30 minutes after second plane hit, the USCG from LC called me and advised inspections were cancelled and on hold for now. Two hours later, they called me to respond to their office in LC, shut all my vessels down and have inventory numbers of our product levels ready. At the time, we were holding almost 2 mil gallons and needless to say, they made us move certain barges. Had to ramp up supplies for crews and send them to the small lakes and bayous out of high target areas, such as LNG, Cameron, and shipyard/high traffic ports. They were really at a loss and it was neat to see how industry was responsible for helping the government make things happen.

I was sitting in 2nd period French class at Acadiana High. My teachers husband called her and told her want was happening so she turned on the TV. That was the last time I can remember actually crying. Watching those firefighters walk into a knowing trap to save as many as they could with the most calm look on their fac really for to me. As soon as I turned 18 I joined the local volunteer fire department because of those heros.

I was at work and heard it on the radio.I had a little pocket tv in my tool box and pulled it out and saw the second tower get hit.No work got done that day.The whole assembly dept was crouched around my tv watching til we went home.

I was just walking in through the door from dropping my kids off at school. I was off from work that day, and at the time my wife was on her way to class at UL in Lafayette. The phone rang as I was opening the door, and when I answered it was my mother asking if I was watching the news. I said no, just walking in. She said turn it on, two planes just hit the world trade center, and they're saying it must be a terrorist attack. It was probably less than a minute or two after the second plane hit, and they were showing the re-plays from nearby building camera feeds. My wife had one class, with hardly anyone there, and the rest were cancelled for the day. Stayed glued to the TV all day long. Hard to say what was the most shocking to see. Not seeing the actual second crash live, it was probably the people jumping, then the towers falling. I still felt a cold, deep hatred seeing the 10th anniversary stuff lately on TV, and a HUGE feeling of respect for the ones who went in to help those trying to get out. So many didn't make it.
