Try looking into the new Remingotn "Managed Recoil" loads. They are said to work well. They come in a variety of calibers.

I have been shooting a .243 for ~ 25 years using 100 gr Cork-lock. With a good shot, the deer will drop or maybe run 30 yards.

Another reason to buy a 7mm 08 is that you can buy "manage recoil" bullets. I don't remember the exact ballistics but I think the manage recoil loads shoot about the same as a .243 cal.
