Seems like we need more, I know it's not enough Bc I have a friend who works the ponchatrain basin and he has said b4 they are very understaffed.

my uncle that works for the dept says the first place to get funds cut by the state is the LDWF when they are having budget problems

mcjaredsandwich 09-30-2011 02:14 PM

Need more agents. You see police increase with population, why not increase agents with increase in hunters and fisherman

RigRatNoMeaux 09-30-2011 02:23 PM

They were probably hunting deer!! It's sad that someone would kill a man for a deer!

outlaws most likely will not be reflected in license sales

joshdomingue 09-30-2011 02:27 PM

In my opinion LDWF is the most dangerous job there is ....... 90% of the time they are alone and the people they are after are always armed...... such a tragedy!!!!!

You are missing what I am saying.
I am saying an increase in city population yields an increase in police.
Wildlife agents should reflect that.

apparently so. I took it as an increase in hunters and fisherman (which would be reflected in license sales.... amirite?)

FF_T_Warren 09-30-2011 03:06 PM

freaking ridiculous. I hope they catch them ASAP.

But one of the bad things I see in this situation is, Why was his last radio transmission at 2 in the morning and fisherman had to find him this morning. Umm didnt a dispatcher at some point think it may be a good idea to send someone to look for him. Thats a kind of screwed up system there. Not that it probably would have made a difference in life or death in this case, but that just seems like a poor practice.

Jordan 09-30-2011 03:34 PM

they (LDWF) probably use other types of communication (2 way radio's and cell phones) due to what David said.... outlaws with scanners.

Not only people with liscenses hunt and fish...prob why this ldwf agent got shot...unliscensed hunters at night..this is why we have enforcement agents.

bjhooper82 09-30-2011 04:18 PM

Really hope they catch this POS...Please don't take this the wrong way guys (by no means judging the guy), but when they said shotgun wound to the chest, i could not help but think why an 18 yr veteran agent was not wearing his bullet proof vest when responding to a possible poaching call....Things must have really gone downhill quick...After seeing some of the rednecks first hand in the woods, I can't imagine the trash these agents deal with on a daily basis....Seems like bullet proof vests would be standard uniform....Not wearing it would be like me walking up the rig floor without a hardhat or safety glasses....My heart goes out to his family.

mstulb 09-30-2011 06:09 PM

Sorry for the family. Tragedy, why I respects wardens, they have a very dangerous job almost alll suspects not on a boat are armed.

This is a shooting of a federal agent absolutely no slack on these.

wtretrievers 09-30-2011 07:38 PM

I know right where this took place.......since the ferry is gone pretty much no traffic there. They should never be allowed to go on a nite call
alone! We need more agents? Why don't we? Cause the pay sucks. God bless his family & his LDWF partners.

He went out at 1:30 according to the last radio contact.

My guess is he either confronted the illegal hunters and the situation went down hill from there. Sad that a husband, father & son lost his life Bc some idiots can't follow the rules and wanted to take matters into their own hands.
The LdWF spokesman said it's common practice for an agent to go out into the woods or water alone for these calls.

Went on a teal hunt last year with an agent and he said the same thing...very understaffed. Said he barely got any days off cause there's no one to work.

LPfishnTIM 09-30-2011 10:58 PM

God bless this man's family, WLF hasn't hired in a long time, they replace when needed. plus they have had budget cuts and since the oil spill liscense revenue has went down. I applied a few years ago,
