If I'm casting with artificials for reds or trout, use mono because it is easier to handle and is less expensive. If I'm fishing bottom, I use braded becaus it does not have any stretch and therefore more sensitive.

I switched to 15 lb. braid over 12 lb. mono on my Stratic spinning reels. It was cause the reel spools don't hold much. If I use a 1/4 oz. lead head with a soft plastic lure on mono, I don't have but a couple wraps of string left on the reel.
The braid is much thinner than the mono.
But I use mono on my bait casting reels.
I do find that you have to change out mono more often. Braid last longer, but more expensive, but mono feels betta.
