Thats a skinny for sure. Hope the deer population doesn't decline to much because of it.

You will normally find them in or around water due to what biologist believe is the animal trying to cool itself from the extreme fever associated w/ blue tounge. I remember the '05 outbreak and we found 13 dead in one weekend. But as mother nature does so well, they bounced back.

Deer
Hey Poncho, i have a pic right across the river from you and it is a doe that looks as bad or worse than that deer.
|
I heard the same thing about the outbreak of blue tounge in cameron prairre yesterday from a biologist.
|
Has anyone heard of any cases around the Reeves area?

Papap posted this picture on Louisiana Sportsmans website also and he got a response from Dr. Jim LaCour, the state wildlife veterinarian with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries... you can read here...

Sure wish I would of made the Sportsman with a picture of a big buck not a sick deer. LOL
|
Maybe next time.. Might cull the herd and make for bigger & better deer.

Papa I hunt across from Gary's and they have a few like that one is a 6pt and one doe I'm gonna put my camera out when I get back in I usually don't shoot bucks unless going on wall but if he comes out with rife I will use tag to put out of misery
|
I think if the state is going to consider this an"epidemic" they need to have people report a sick deer they killed but not require the waste of a tag. They already said an infected deer is pretty much going to die. Perhaps removing the infected would prevent further infection, I'm no biologist JMO.
