Maybe he said that was part of their test I don't remember. He showed me he paces cars also but it's still a guess within a few mphs.

Attitude may/may not assist in that discretion
Off duty traffic details are quite common through federal/state grants
Cops, in general, are not there to make your life difficult. They are there to do a job.
Cops did not write the laws they are there to enforce, thus they may themselves not agree with them!
And last but not least - if you are having a bad day, think about the poor soul having to direct traffic because of an idiotic driver wearing polyester clothes, a ballistic vest, and 30 pounds of gear around your waist! - No wonder they are a jerk!!!

I have 2 friends who are both troopers. I asked them if they have "quotas". They told me when they work a detail from complaints of speeding in a certain area or of an intersection where people are running red lights they are asked to write 12 tickets a shift. Writing 12 tickets on a 12 hour shift is pretty easy.

they all work good now a days.. I had one when I was in the military driving back and forth to north Carolina. works when thy are radaring other people. if they just radar you its too late and the detector will go off as they get your speed. so take that as a warning, it will detect the radar, but it might be too late..

My brother is a cop and, there is SOMEWHAT of a quota for him when he is on his bike working. It is expected of him by the department to make at least 10 contacts per shift. That said, he is NOT expected to write 10 citations.

Just keep your eyes peeled the range on them things isn't as far as they would you too believe. The dash mounted ones are a little over 1/2 a mile I think maybe 3/4.

I probably really don't need one. I get stopped about once every two years and usually just when I am not paying attention.

When the cops are using lasers on the interstate, do radar detectors pick those up or are lasers undetectable? As you can see, I don't know much about the subject.

You really need to get out more Dan.:p Nothing detects the LAZER
Most jurisdictions will give you 5 mph over the limit (Cameron Parish 65 mph is good to go) so after that your driving on prayers. Used to never leave home without a RD on the dash but as I matured it dawned on me how much money I had spent on speeding tickets (thousands). It's also easier to get a ticket fixed without a RD on the dash because they always note on ticket if they busted you while using one.

When working LACE - we are looking for points in violations, not tickets. If I stop someone with a suspended license, for speeding, with an expired MVI, no insurance, and happened to have modified exhaust - then this homeboy will be off duty early for hitting the jackpot!!!!!!!:grinpimp:

Got stopped expecting a 3 mph over ticket instead got a no seatbelt. Had to unbuckle it to get out of the truck? Ended up paying it cause it was only $25 but it did leave a sour taste in my mouth for state troopers. All else fails write a no seatbelt ticket your word against theirs.

Call and ask what min ticket price is in Acadia/Lafayette/Iberia/St Martin/St Landry parish is. Bet a month of dog training that it's 6-7 times what you paid. I I thanked the last guy who gave me the option of a seat belt ticket. Also thanked the last Trooper who sent me on my way when he could have bent me over good for being a big dummy. Gimme all dem seat belt tickets for $25

southern151 07-01-2013 04:18 PM

Got a ticket reduced from careless ops to 73 in a 70(yes, 3mph is why he cited me with careless ops!). I thought it was a good deal until they read the fees. It's $2 per mph over so, $6 right?...WRONG! By the time I paid that and, court fees, it was $115!! I nearly went to jail after hearing that number!

Oh yeah, it was a state trooper who issued the citation to me at 5:30am on a Sunday morning while I was headed into work! Even before this moment, I have had no use for a trooper!

speckman29 07-01-2013 04:31 PM

Fin I need you to pull me over and dot my truck!!! I get extra cash for clean roadside inspections!!!!

moe1967 07-01-2013 04:35 PM

Valentine 1

However, no detector will save you if the Po Po is triggering his radar and you're the only car/truck around.

That said, my Val 1 has more than paid for itself many times over

Escort passport radar detector

flounder_smacker 07-01-2013 07:34 PM

i put 40-60k miles a year on the road and have had a detector for 5 years. 1 ticket because i wasn't paying attention and had my unit on silent. i rarely drive the speed limit on highways and the interstate. no telling how much money in tickets it has saved me. yeah they only work when traffic in front of you is getting shot but whens the last time you were driving and didnt have someone in front of you? a good detector will pick up 8-10 miles ahead. escorts new redline claims 14. valentine will read 10 miles. if you are driving a lot its worth to have one. if you want one get a good one expect to spend 400-600 bucks.
