I'm pretty sure it's cool as hell but to say it will help you catch more fish is not not true..

Boats don't help you catch fish either

It's way easier to catch fish out of them in some spots though.

Well I'm not saying it will catch the fish for you, but it can help find them.

It's prolly useless in BL unless you looking for stuff in the channel in late summer. I'm getting it on mine. I bass fish enough to justify it. Plus if prolly get it anyway it's pretty sweet.

Ill be heading that way soon. maybe tomorrow morning. Ill get some pics of the lake, ship channel etc. I think its awasome. You could scan a whole reef at 1 time. Identify where the bait is etc. You find hard and soft bottom with very easy

Here are a few henderson pics. Bait ball cypress tree. Grass on the bottom.

I use mine all the time but I only fish Toledo Bend and I love it! Shallow or deep I am constantly finding things with it that I wouldn't have without it on!

It's touch screen or buttons. Pretty nice.

I can say. I had to do my homework in order to learn how to operate my hds 7 touch. I read to the owners manual a few times, Just to make sure I was didn't miss anything!

It seems the touch screens just are easier to work with. You find this to be true?

alphaman 03-11-2014 10:10 AM

IMO Yes the touch screens are very easy to navigate though compared to hummingbirds buttons. But the learning curve for lowrance is not as easy as hummingbird.

My lowrance has a drop down menus and it 1 touch sub menus.

great comments Baseball. I use mine in V Bay. what i have found is that most of the area i fish is structureless. it does work better in deeper water such as canals and those deep holes. and my occasional trips to Toledo.

like B ball i will find areas on a map or be drawn to them by something visual, then make a few passes. I also use it when we pull up to a platform, I will circle it to find out if fish are around and where the bait and fish are holding.

nice, yes, if you have the funds, go for it, but its not a magic bullet, but it helps. Like W is hinting to, technology will not replace talent.

Humminbird vs. Lowrance

Humminbird = ease of use
Lowrance = performance, but you have to read the manual a few times. They are powerful unit.

fishwater 03-11-2014 01:24 PM

I use my structure scan a lot. But I do not use the side imaging much. I split my screen to regular sonar and down imaging to find drop off mostly. I can't catch fish with or without it but it is cool to have.
