Got my son a job w/ me doing electrical work. Asked the owner not to put him under me which they didn't listen to. Told him from the get go that he was going to be under their micro scope. first time one of the electricians came to me and told me that son had said i told him he didn't have to sweep i had the electrician go and tell him again where i could hear . He told the electrician that i said he didn't have to sweep . I heard it. walked around the corner and told him .You don't have to sweep because you are fired. Wife got upset for a min. but she understood.

Wife and me spent about an hour talking to Southern last night. Just getting insight and thoughts from another business owner.
Just wanted someone elses take on the situation. Im not and will never be so good that im always right and don't overeact. When I'm pissed I really make bad decisions.

Good for you eman. It sucks to have to do that but he'll be a better man for it. Our son works for us during the summer and I have had one occasion were I had to tell him I would fire him. He straightened up quick. He likes having $ and I also told him if he got fired his xbox was coming to work with me. Yep I can be an azzhole.lol

That was IMO, a bit premature. BIG difference in a brother and a son...BIG difference. Should have pulled your son aside, and chewed him out or whatever. He should have been given the chance to straighten out, and appologize to the one he lied to.

Not premature at all. His son had two chances to do the right thing. I bet his boy gets the third chance right. My wife and I pretty much run the place. I sweep the floor if it needs to be done. She will sweep the floor if im too busy.

There is no successful small business owner that thinks he/she is too good to push a broom. You may not want to do it but it's a job that needs to be done.

Well they always say family can't work together and in this case it sounds like it's true.
