Now Jordan...how is that information helpful?

cmdrost 01-21-2010 02:56 PM

wahoo like it fast. 8-9 knots or so. Bills, dolphin, & wahoo will all hit at this speed.

Dink 01-22-2010 01:36 AM

OK.......what is the equation to convert knots to MPH? I troll at bout 4.5 MPH and have hooked up both tuna and wahoo.....I may have just been lucky???

Ray 01-22-2010 01:39 AM

Knots X 1.15 = MPH

Dink 01-22-2010 01:41 AM

Drost......what knot do you use to tie on the hook to flouro??? I've lost some fish to wrong knots.......I've seen one that you tie it around the shank of the hook instead of to the eye, it wont slip b/c of the eye at the end of the hook shaft, but don't know what its called..........I tried steal leader twisted and crimped, but bite slows.......I think fish can see it.......Tim

We use the double uni alot. The joke on the boat is "it catches blue marlin & speckled trout!"

Other than that we use the "crimp" method for the big pulling baits and leave enough room for them to slide up & down the leader.

Now that's what im talking about! Nice pic! The fishing there is year round....and Grander BLUE Marlin are caught w/in 1 mile of Kailua-Kona...along w/ wahoo, yellowfin, skip jack, mahi, broadbill swords, spear fish, white marlin, etc. Man i can't wait. I've got a lot to learn but I'll have time. If any of you have any books for recommendation or sites that gear towards sport fishing & big game trolling please let me know.

We'll be there for 6 month guaranteed...but we're hoping for 18 months.
Fishing is great there...especially for Blues and Ahi. Mahi run in abundance and wahoo (ono) are occasional but not rare along with the other pelagic species mentioned in the above post. They also have peacock bass...Lake Wilson in the higher altitudes of Oahu..which will go on my wall when i catch one along with other freshwater species. Trevalle are commonly saught after from the rocks shore fishing. It's never a boring day there and hunting in the mountains can also produce turkey, mountain goats, pheasants, quail, churaks???....wild boar....several different deer etc. Lots of wildlife options from the isalnds.

I wouldn't compare it to Venice, La though. (as far as fishing) Although chances of catching a lifetime Grander Marlin is 100x better in HI.

I will be posting tons of pics and you tube vids on here during my stay.

Haoles! I don't think it will be a problem. We'll keep our nose clean and smile. I've done a lot of research on this issue.
