I have been blowing James's calls ever since him and Nathan went seperate ways years ago... Redbone and Riceland are obviously very similar, but I have yet to find a call that is of better sound or quality than Riceland.. Yes you can kill specks with a lot of different calls but, you are not going to get the range of sounds with such ease in any other call than a Riceland. My vote goes to James and Bill for RCC..

now duck calls my favorite is still the dr85, but the bluewing teal calls i buy one every year, cause the guts just fall out of them. Their speck calls take alot of air and don't sound near as good imo. |

I am not trying to get in an argument over anything duck related cuz people get butthurt so quick, and its August |
its all good... everybody is intitled to there own oppinion... i grew up blowign dr85 but then I wanted to advance my skills and there is only so much you can do with a call like that... my opinion is that everybody blows different and have there own preference and from my experiences, calls are almost like anything in life, you pay for what you get...

that's what we're talking about! You're the one that said i was smoking to pay $200 for a goose call, and you just expect for me to keep my mouth shut you don't know me and that's not going to happen. It's my choice if i want to pay whatever for my equipment, and you have the right to your own opinion, but it's still my choice. I don't even denie that i spend alot of my hard earned money to duck hunt every year and if i don't kill a bird all year the next year i will do the same, cause there's more to it than killing a limit. |
It's not spending $200. It's the principle of spending $200 on a call. If people want to spend $200 on a call that is fine and dandy. But I won't. X2 on the DR85. I love the sound of that call. As far as bluewing. Primos wench ;)

i've called in alot of ducks with the dr85 it sounds great. |
X2
Btw. I has wasted a lot of money on hunting stuff overthe years!! Lol! |
I've reverted to making calls out of old tampons cartridges and old shaved down hair combs
readily available, and most all of not much $$$ |

I am just pointing this out, there are thousands and thousands of calls out there and to each his own. If you want to spend $500 on a call go ahead DGG - the 'smoker' thing was just to say that a $200 call didn't last a year, we only have a few of these little emoticons or whatever they are to express our 'mood'. No offense |

thank you! I mean you not smart for paying to much for something, but if you buy stuff of lesser value you get what you pay for. |
HERE YOU GO IT'S WHAT YOU TYPED
its all good... everybody is intitled to there own oppinion... i grew up blowign dr85 but then I wanted to advance my skills and there is only so much you can do with a call like that... my opinion is that everybody blows different and have there own preference and from my experiences, calls are almost like anything in life, you pay for what you get... |
I also spray paint walmart sweatshirts for camo with 1/4 full spraypaint cans i collect
Found a 1994 used Charlotte Hornet Starter Jacket which I camoed...all about the benjamins. |
I sprinkle diamonds on everything I eat
|
Paint milk jugs black and use em for decoys!
|
The thing is, no one kills every duck or goose that they see. If you're going to spend money on good shells, good decoys, 1500 dollar shotguns, and boats, why not buy the best sounding call on the market? People that are complaining about the principle of spending that much on a call probably shoot guns way more expensive than a remington 870 that will kill birds just as good as a 1500 dollar shotgun. And when each call is hand tuned and spun individually, and is built of quality material, yeah it's going to cost more than 20 bucks
|
Whena group of birds doesn't come in, it never crosses your mind what maybe would have happened if you had a better sounding call? I'm talking about specks here. I'm not going to lie i blow a haydels duck call, but as far as geese, some calls clearly sound much better than others

I shot an 870 all the way up til second split of last year. And I shoot the cheapest shells on the market. 6$ a box!

agree 100%, but also when you pay 5-7k for a blind to kill specks you want to be able to put the favor in your odds right? |

Lol it was the trout shootout. Get it right! Lolbut it was time for a new gun. Like I said. Whenever my call fails me I will upgrade maybe one day. Gotta win another tournament first though!

Back to the point of the original posters question, both calls sound great. Learning how to blow either one shouldn't be that hard. Learning how to use it will take many years and you will never truly master how to use it. Anyone who says they kill a limit of specks every hunt is telling a boldfaced lie. Thats a fact |

LOL!!!!!! |

agree 100%. This pretty much sums it up my redbone sounded awesome i just got rubbed the wrong way by the customer service. |
I kill my limit of specks every hunt. :)

If you think a speck call from 25 years ago sounds like a riceland or redbone, your smokin some good dope. But I do agree they don't cost that much to make. Sure you can buy a lathe and spin calls but do you know how to build troughs for speck calls? I highly doubt it. Does your truck you drive cost as much to manufacture as you paid for it? Your not always paying for the manufacturing costs, your paying for the idea. |

I sorta agree with the speck call aspect, the newer ones are probably better. There were probably only a handful of speck calls 25 years ago and sure they killed specks but would think now the sound has improved but its because there is more of a market now.
Duck calls have probably gotten a little better sounding straight out the box now than 25 years ago as well, but there was never a such thing as a $100+ duck call 25 years ago that I am aware of. Some of the new nice calls are more for collectors |
