And, at the end of the day, you may have no birds and a huge investment/business interest to manage.

May as well lease unless you plan to become a farmer.

Marsh would be easier, but still has it's management costs associated and risks of no birds. I kick myself for not buying 20+ acres of marsh by Klondike a few years back - I was one of the first to hear about it by chance by striking a random conversation with the owner. I scouted it and saw ducks frequenting it too, hunted a lease not far from the land... Just wasn't in a position to buy it, could have, but didn't due to tunnel vision. Hindsight

If you own land you can always lease the farming rights to a farmer.

Duck hunting is not deer hunting (petting zoo) where animals can be tied to trees / fenced in until they are shot or brought in and feed all day...:work:
Most peeps farm their land or have a farmer plus you need access to water...canal to pump from.....there is more involved than you think.

Maybe more to it than I know , but this is what info I know in regards to duck hunting. I don't do the first thing for ducks on my land and they are in every slew, and flooded timber section I have . It's not farm land and the Mississippi river feeds it which I am sure is the difference.point being; there are places you can buy where all this stuff isn't needed.

For a 1,000 acre farm you better have a few Million

southLA 10-23-2013 12:07 AM

2-5000 per acre on land that isn't hot hunting ground is what i'd guess

SULPHITE 10-23-2013 08:32 AM

everyone just give up...its not worth it....

I hope to one day own some land that I can manage for ducks and other wildlife. Right now I'm in a fairly small marsh lease. And everyone is right, it takes work. It's Miami corp land so it's not extremely expensive but we always figure extra costs for poisoning and what not. I wish we were able to control water levels on it! Of course to me, that's part of the fun, being out working on stuff. I've had ag field leases and yes they are easy but none were nearly as consistent as what I have now. But I do have friends with rice fields that are out of control good most every day of every season. Good luck finding something like that though!

I was asked to report that the blind has been reduced to $3,500.

I lease a blind just north of Roanoke from Reggie Knowles. This is my first year on the lease, so the only experience I have with him is from teal season, but I have no complaints so far.

This blind that he has is in a good general area for killing ducks and I think it would do well on a south wind. I have a blind less than 1 mile away from his.

As I was day dreaming about teal season today I remembered this thread. I told yall I would come back here and post how many birds we killed out of our blind leased from reggie Knowles, so here it goes.

Including teal season we killed somewhere around 250 birds. We had a miserable second split. But it was such a bad year for most people last year that it makes it hard to tell whether I had a crappy blind or if that was just the norm last year. Anyway, we thought it was good enough to lease the same blind again this year.

Come on September!

Maybe so.....but you haven't duck hunted long if you haven't heard of at least a dozen leases being taken away by someone offering more money. Everyone wants to hunt the hot spot.

Oh I've heard it, but you really think he would've posted it for the guy if he wanted it? I guarantee he would've leased it in a second if he thought it was better than any of his other spots

He posted for Reggie in 2013, last season. This is this season. Upcoming Is next season. .........naive much?? Remember duck hunters; loose lips sink ships.

Goooh 01-25-2015 09:05 AM

No but I will take yours. Give me some info and start looking for another spot.

ckinchen 01-25-2015 09:58 AM

In all seriousness I only hunt in the marsh I was curious how the fields did this year. I can always just call the man that leased it to him or other people I know I that lease but that's the point of a discussion board, to discuss things. If he does not want to disclose that info, no big deal he does not have to respond.

jlincecum 01-25-2015 09:59 AM

Not naive, I know Casey and how he operates. So how many blinds have you snaked out from other people? That sounds like the voice of experience to me.

CameronHunter 01-25-2015 01:53 PM

If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, then its probably a RAT! Not sure why Meaux getting his feathers ruffled?? Maybe he wants to stay on Casey's good side. Might even get to hunt Neus' s "old" blind with casey if you keep playing your cards right Meaux. Me I dont have to drink the cool aid or tell him how his behind doesn't smell. He has you for that Meaux.

Me personlly I've picked up 3 blinds from people saying what they killed and where they were hunting, had my Secretarry look to see who owns the land, make contact with the landowner, make the landowner an offer he can't refuse and boom...... I have a duckblind that did great last season waiting on my this year, SUCKAS.

I would assume if they come up for lease.....99% of the time is because the lease is not nearly worth the $$. It seems majority of the time when the good blinds come open they do not even hit the open market for bids or lease.

my understanding is they go up for lease every 5 years unless someone cant pay.

im pretty sure anywhere worth a crap is a pretty penny....

whats that famous saying, "you pay, for what you get"?
