I use a 12 cleaning brush on an old cleaning rod .Put the rod in a drill and get after it. There is a lube nut but i cant remember the name of it .

how does that work Ryan ?? That nut replaces what ?? The tube connects to the nut and the bottle of lube and it greases the inside of the rod/tube how ??

Jordan u get that steering apart ?
|
yes....... Robert did actually. He took a 15" galvenized nail and blunted the tip to make it flat. He un-screwed the nut and knocked the eyelet and sleeve back through. Another problem is that the steering wheel "pops" when turning it.
We still have to take motor off and replace the tube. It is all pitted inside on the top. I took a pic of the nail and the rod/sleeve/eyelet combination, but some how my phone didnt save them. |
The steering box may have to be replaced also . Sometimes the gear inside will strip if the steering was forced in an attempt to free it up. I wouldnt change that tube on the motor unless it was rusted thru ,but thats me.

even with the pitting..... Robert bought a can of PB blaster and its about empty. I got him some silicone spray( Liquid wrench) and worked the rod over and over with it. Robert bought a stainless steel tube. I have a cherry picker , i dont think it will be that hard of a job, could be wrong..... |
If you already have the parts go for it. It shouldnt be that bad of a job if you have a lift to hold the motor while you work on it.
|
I truely appreciate the help fellas.... Kenner, i owe ya one bro..... Same goes for you Ryan. Robert was going to bring it to the shop, and yet we fixed it (with ya'lls help)
