My problem is the neighbors lab

swamp snorkler 02-29-2012 08:24 AM

This is the coop I have in mind. http://catawbacoops.com/ of course I'm not paying the $19.99 they want for the plans. I just drew something up in 15 minutes on Auto-Cad. I'll let yall know how it comes out. I'm thinking I can build it for under $100

My brother raised some a few years ago for a 4h project. Grew like weeds, lazy as heck, and dirty. Had to use a broom to make them walk. 6 weeks later had mini turkeys. Helped clean about 40 and damn near cured my chicken eating for life. Not the cleaning just think about them at the chicken ranch. That has to be a sight. I am telling you they were the laziest animals I have ever seen

With cornish hens, if you dont kill/clean at a certain age they will die from being to big. At least that was what I was told, the man said they grow fast as to provide meat quick but they will get overweight and die if not harvested after so long.

If they were white and Ugly like Salty they were broiler hens, my nephew raises about 100 a year. He's in the 5th grade and so far has taken 2nd and 5th out of about 60 kids both times.

Got my first egg this morning! Kids were pretty pumped. Once a 4 birds get to laying I should be getting 4 a day

Sweet

Swamp, I have 9 hens that lay and I don't get 9 eggs per day. I average around 50% that lay on a given day. Don't expect to receive 4 eggs per day as that won't happen, especially this time of the year with the shorter days. Next spring and summer, you might see 4 per day.

I got my first one Saturday AM and only 1 since. They were both layed during the day. IF i get a dozen or 2 a week I'm fine with that.

I my go pick up another laying hen or 2.
