A 1648 aluminum hill with a 20-40 hp tiller motor will give a new boater a way to get around on the water, gain experience, etc. I've been happy with my 16 foot alumacraft for six years and just started dreaming of my next boat earlier this year. |

Just got back from checking out and test drive 1993 sea ark mcbass 160 with 93 mercury outboard
here are some picture and can yall tell me anything you see that will give me problem later on thanks he is asking 2800 for it. Bad that i notice. -he removed the tilt for the motor. -carpet are old -the boat is somewhat scratch up and they is no bad dent in it. -I noticed when i gave it gas it start to smoke a little but then it would stop is that normal? http://i47.tinypic.com/33uvhg9.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/2i1hwua.jpg http://i45.tinypic.com/2vts5r6.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/21jpvlk.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/r9lem8.jpg |
Sea arks are well built boats. How long were yall out for? Did you check to see if the boat got any water in it? Check the transom/hull for pitting from saltwater use. Did the trailer appear solid? rust? surface rust? Most 2 strokes smoke. My johnson does it until it gets warmed up. I wouldnt worry with the carpet, you can tear it out or replace it cheap. If you're gonna use it in.saltwater i wouod rip it out

We were out for about 30 min at 1st it was dieing out but when we left the dock it didn't do it. He said it was the water separator? from not running the boat in couple weeks. No pitting most of the bolt were SS except the bolt for the trolling motor. The trailer was 7/10 tires where changed out last year and look like fresh grease on the bearing.
The steering wheel seem hard but he said he just gota grease the motor part up, also he said he was going give me a ride on it again Monday if i were serious about buying it. so is 2800 a good price or should i try to knock it down a little more? |
|
If it was dying i would be hesitant on buying it. I would ask him if he fixed the water seperator and greased the motor before you take it out again. You could offer $2500 and the worst that can happen is he tell you no.
|
Yeah I told him to grease up the motor fix the water separator issue and put the trolling motor back on with the gps/fish finder for another ride monday.
|
If he took you out knowing he had problems that he didn't address I would be very careful, is this an old man or someone younger..... all the problems you post could be easy to fix or more costly then the rig is worth
|
he is pretty young around 21
|
It could also be what "he"thinks is wrong with it. I thought i knew what was wrong with mine and several parts later i found out what was really wrong it. I would try to bring along someone who knows a little bit about boats Monday

My boat ran me about $4,000. 1997 18 ft kenner with a 90hp johnson. Not my first boat, but the most expensive I have ever bought. I usually buy stuff out of peoples yards with grass grown up around it. I bought this one from a online add. I knew my boat had some flaws, but I like working on it when not fishing. My boat needed the keel repaired, from the guy hitting a sandbar too hard. Also the motor was temperamental. Turned out to be the stator and power head. With the motor, make sure it has good compression. Everything else can be worked on. No matter how tempted you are, dont overspend. I see so many people buy a boat and after the first year, dont use it anymore. Make sure you actually are going to use it before you ever buy something that hurts the pocket book. Like my neighbor, he bought a 30,000 dollar bass boat and I bet he has used it three times in the last two years.

can you send some picture?

someone told me when buying a boat, assume the motor is useless. don't pay too much more than you think just the hull and accessories are worth.
