Open carry makes you a target. Not just for violence, but for false accusations. If it's legal and they can't cause trouble for you just mentioning that you had a holstered firearm, they will improve their account to the point where you did something illegal with the gun. And the better a look they have at your firearm, the more believable their story will be. It is unlikely that anyone will falsely accuse you of brandishing or assault if they are not even sure you are armed and cannot describe the gun. A lot of people fear guns and gun owners and will embellish an account if needed to get an honest gun owner in trouble.
