Man CMON... Unless all the guides I have asked about the 15trout limit lied to me, I have not found one on the East side here at Heberts that said it was a good thing other than getting a limit faster One guide service pushed it Will Drost, an avid angler and Lake Charles businessman, supports lowering the limit to 15 trout per day. He actually prefers 10 per day, but believes more people would support a 15-fish limit. However, he wants to see more scientific studies conducted in the estuary. Biological observations Biologists don’t see a problem with the trout population in Calcasieu Lake. They said that anglers might catch fewer specks because fish simply don’t bite occasionally or they move to find better food, temperatures or water conditions. “The speckled trout population in the Calcasieu Estuary is healthy,” said Mike Harbison, a biologist with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in Lake Charles. “I don’t see a biological need to change the limit. We are finding fish in our sampling. If something is not broken, why fix it?” Trout spawn from April through September with the peak in June, Harbison said. A speck reaches sexual maturity after one year. One large trout can produce 1.65 million eggs in a spawning season. A trout may live 13 years, but most die before they live one year. More than 90 percent of trout die before they live four years. About four percent reach 25 inches long. One percent reaches 26 inches. Natural mortality from predators or other environmental factors take 66 percent of the trout regardless of fishing pressure. If the state banned fishing entirely, that percentage will not change, Harbison said. “If we dropped the limit to 15 fish per day, we’ll only save about 14 percent of the fish caught now,” Harbison said. “If we go down to 10 fish per day, we’ll save about 29 percent of the fish now caught and kept. To make any significant changes, we’ll have to go to eight fish per day or less.” Biological observations Biologists don’t see a problem with the trout population in Calcasieu Lake. To make any significant changes, we’ll have to go to eight fish per day or less.” On the other side of Calcasieu Lake, Kirk Stansel of Hackberry Rod and Gun Club wants the lake granted “trophy status.” He also supports a 15-fish daily creel and wants to see the minimum size raised to 14 inches to give fish one more chance to spawn before hitting an ice chest. “I’d like to see the lake declared ‘the trophy estuary of the Gulf Coast,’” he said. “Everyone wants to catch a limit of fish, but the majority of people who come here from other areas want to catch a big trout, not fill their freezers. If we lower the limit and the rest of the state keeps the 25-fish limit, that will hurt our business some, but if we lose our fish, we won’t have any business at all. If the lake is declared a trophy lake, that might even increase our clientele.” Stansel said his club fishes about 10 boats per day, each with a guide and one to three anglers. They can expand to 20 boats if necessary. Their boats catch a three-person limit of 75 trout about three to five percent of the time or less. Too many weirs |
Although I am a CCA member,I am opposed to the saltwater license fee increase.Too many times dedicated monies are transferred to the general fund,or for some politicians pet project...I have lived in south La all my life, and seen this happen many times..Just my opinion...

this is one more issue where CCA (if it truly cared or represented the interests of recreational fishermen) they should be demanding proof where the money will be spent and oversee wasteful spending and publicly report about it. politicians don't like bad press so they avoid doing things that cause bad press. so to clarify, do I think the increase is all that bad? not really, but the size of it is too much. do I think it should be supported without having a good strong case made for why its needed and how it can be prevented from being wasted as just more free revenue? no |
Biggun
Biggun, I mean bigmouth...not only have your past actions proven you are a liar and coward, but now you have proven you are also a hypocrite.
You actually have the nerve to NOW ask for us to join together as one, when you are the one who sent emails to your members to physically harm me because I checked you are your fabricated facts. I threat you seem to never make in person Then you say I only made conjecture. Please challenge just one, one fact I stated that you believe conjecture. Remember, just a few days ago, I said the commercial fisherman clean the recreational fishermen's clock in Wahsington and you said that was not true. Well you best go read your very ownd CCA website, because what I said earlier this week is now a featured article on its website. I think you must be drinkiing more than kool aid, little coward. One more thing, boy, was that the Gulf Council laughing at the credibility of CCA at the meeting this week or were they just happy to see you all. |

Right now.. I have 6 Guides here at Heberts who will take a sticker!! If you don't believe me drive down we are drinking beer talking with the WL&F survey guy here at Heberts |
im not happy with that sticker.
its not plain enough in what it is saying by a symbol that cant easily be red unless you already know what it says. I would prefer to have it spelled out underneath "I NO LONGER SUPPORT CCA BECAUSE CCA NO LONGER SUPPORTS ME" or for that matter just give me that bumper sticker and I know of 6 people plus me right now who will put them on the truck and boat and a few house storm doors as well. the little round one is cute but not bold enough IMHO Quote:

Sorry.. U have UR opinion, I respectfully Disagree... I don't agree WITH Everything CCA DOES or SAYS.. But the Majority of what CCA does I support.. I don't Agree with EVERYTHING Duck Unlimited or Delta Waterfowl does either.. But I still support them.. I've supported this site. Supported any charitable money raising function we EVER HAD. This Should have been placed in the GILL NET BY THE MODs along time AGO.. MOD's. Please PM ME ASAP... |
Why would this go in the gill net?
I'm calling foul and an attempt to stifle free speech. Can we get some pictures in this thread? How bout some shorter posts? |
Doesn't need to go to gillnet until we get a CajunMade response.
|
Why should it be in the gill net??? No porn , cussing or personal attacks????
I got Threatened w/ a ban a few years ago from LAS for stating the facts about CCA . Guess what? Once they learned the truth I got an apology. I notice that the biggest outdoor site in La. doesn't support CCA like they used to??? Let this stay in a public forum for all to see and comment on. |
Eman..
I think CajunMade has called Me BIGMOUTH, LAIR, Hypocrite, Boy. Etc.. My final Post on this thread. |

If those words hurt your feelings then May be good thing was last post

Cajunmade will be changing his screen name today. I did not realize that is also the name of a business in south Louisiana that has nothing to do with his comments. Personally I am a CCA member and the site generally sponsors CCA activities and has for several years. I do not think the organization is perfect, no organization is beyond criticism. At the end of the day, I support the organization
That being said this is an open public forum and I do think a healthy debate is fine and I do not want to shut the thread down but the thread needs to not attack individuals or businesses. State your opinions and any facts that you have please. The thread is open but people will be banned for slander/liable worthy comments and or personal attacks against each other. |
If I was Chris Moran I would be happy. Sounds like the dude got his facts. I would book. Btw my dad just got back from a trip with cajunmade charters. Meathaul
|
Bet Raymond and all the CCA clones are playing golf today instead of fishing... but they have there CCA starched shirts on sunshine pumping..
|
Am I getting stickers made or what?

Don't mean to butt in, but the $ will be wasted. I'm more in favor of something tangible for my $, there's plenty of "paper/cyber studies" already. Any government sponsered project consumes 90% -100% of the $ in the "research" phase. It's sickening to see the waste..... Our coast is disappearing and talk, talk, talk. It takes 50X's more $$ to create 1 acre of wetland, than it does to preserve 1 acre.

Biggun Did It Again
First and far most, and as I said earlier, I am in no way associated with Chris Moran or his company. In fact, I think he has one of the best charter groups on the east side, especially Capt. Chad.
However, I did not know he own the phrase "CajunMade" Nonethelss, I have changed my named to "3FLa". My name is relfective of another group that will be coming to the aid of Louisiana recreational fishermen, which will be futher explained in the very near future. What Biggun did again, is lied. We have met on numerous ocasions, I have talked to Chris Moran, on numerous occasions, I have supplied true and certified court records and true and certifed Secretary of State records to Biggun that established a rig removal company owner is one of six true owners of CCA of Louisiana, the director of CCA of Louisiana is not the only person paid a salary (records of CCA IRS filing). You just cannot help yourself, uh boy. So know that he has truly exposed himself, he takes his ball and leaves the playground in tears. |
I have a lifetime now, but here is the thing. If the increase is actually only for a few years and the funds are dedicated and not subject to misuse, great. But look at our track record for dedicated funds.
|
we can all go to facebook and join the group against cca if any bad talk is needed. search "boycott the S.T.A.R" and join in.
|
I saw the Feds are about to cut the 11 day snapper season for recreational anglers down some more
But CCA is getting ready for the STAR and have newspapers covers to make zero time to fight for fisherman While the let our oyster fisherman rape our Lake bottom, you heard it from our Lake Charles chapter president CCA has zero plans in work to fight them or save our natural reefs |
they spend more on advertising for the STAR than all the efforts to make our area better
|
I don't think lifetime licenses will remain what they appear to be at present. I expect that within our children's lifetimes, extra permits and fees will be added. Some possibilities:
1. A fee could be added to the recreational offshore landing permit that is currently free. 2. Boat launch fees. 3. Fees to use live bait. Fees and permits for specific species. Fees to use more than one rod. Fees to use more than a certain number of hooks. 4. Trespass fees for certain public waters. 5. Fees to pass through certain water control structures. 6. Permits required by the feds. 7. Permits required at the parish or more local level. Etc. |

As bad as I hate the fact CCA/STAR is huge money pit I will sign up again this year. I know as soon as I don't I will catch a tag or something huge. I couldn't live with myself. STAR is a cheated system. I know of at least one boat given away that was a cheat. The guy was reported well ahead of weigh in and wasn't given a polygraph. As far as their "conservation efforts. Looks like they spend more time and money protecting the rich landowners than protecting resources and fisherman. I feel for the future fisherman.
