Talk to him about Carl Miller when u go. He fell of the earth. Ask him what happened to him. He knows him.

rondog 05-18-2010 03:05 PM

I'll ask next time i talk to him.

He might not have anything good to say about him! Haha but when I was in high school, if St. Cyr didn't win the rodeo then Carl Miller won. But I hear he ran from the IRS back to Illinois where his family is from.

rondog 05-18-2010 03:32 PM

His name does sound familar. I might have heard a couple of stories about him. Did he use to fish with coakers?

Croakers and pogies were all he fished with.

rondog 05-18-2010 03:41 PM

I'll ask Terry about him.

Damn shame he didn't have a camera with him the day of that slaughter 'cause his pics are of 3 lbers. He did, however, show a pic of a couple of 7's he was gettin' ready to clean. If I were to compile a list of "TroutMasters".......he would not be featured, nor, would anybody else that fished live bait exclusively and kept every fish they caught.

sit down with the man and talk to him, if u dont know him then dont make assumptions. he does not have to lie about fishing like some people. he has caught 9lb trout and i kno cause ive seen them. learn seabrook and u can catch them as well but dont hate cause ur not in a book brotha. who on the forum has never used live bait?

eman 05-18-2010 06:18 PM

If a tourney allows any bait to be used then live bait will win most of the time .
probably over 75% of the time. I will fish w/ what ever puts fish in my box.
Being that i only get to fish 5 or 6 times a year now ,I use live bait if it's available .
If ya don't like live bait ,DON"T use it . but the guys that win the money do.

I'd much rather be mentioned in Sports Illustrated. Because I don't believe the dood caught 9 trout over 9 lbs in one trip does not mean that I don't believe he's caught 9 lb. trout, nor, that I'm hatin'. Sittin' at Seabrook soakin' live bait involves more luck than skill.

And u can say what u want about live bait but we caught Hawgs! Biggest trout I ever caught was with him. My dad and uncles won lots of rodeos with him.

Carl was in business with Steve Shook. They fished the rocks at East Timbilier with them huge pogies. Damdest stringer of big trout I ever saw was in Shook's boat. He had 4 fish...all over 10 lbs. Steve took off following the Kingfish trail and moved from Golden Meadow. I have no idea what happened to Carl.

ok well then sports illustrated it is. so tell me when u go to seabrook and soak live bait do u catch anything? or have u even fished seabrook legit with live bait? ya dont just show up and trout jump in ur live well and eat ur shrimp u gotta find em. technique just like fishing anywhere else, period! but that would be cool sports illustrated "fisherman edition"

Well, they'll be in that 5-acre spot in the center of those 5,000 boats. Ya sit there and wait for the trout to pass through.

Yeah, I've been to Seabrook. Been twice with, arguably, one of the "elite" on Lake Pontchartrain......and, no, it wasn't "Chink". Had I or anyone on the boat caught a big trout....I still would not have been impressed with the place. LaAngler, a "westerner", has been there. Ask his opinion.

I would rather catch 15 1lb trout in the marsh than 25 5lb trout at seabrook. To hell with all those boats and the craziness that goes with that spot. I have been once and swore I would never go back. That was 6 years ago and I haven't been back. The guys sitting on the pier chunking weights at the boats, other boats within spitting range of you, driving thru the ghetto to get there. I'll pass. But what i love about seabrook is when it is hot every boat in the metro area is there, leaving the other spots peaceful.

I forgot what point you were trying to make....

"W" 05-18-2010 10:13 PM

Masters,,,,let's compare.
BassMasters?? How many soak brim??? None

Your not a troutmaster if your go to bait is live.....
Your only a Master if you use artificial only.....

BassMasters don't use live so TroutMasters should follow... Chink or any other that are live bait soakers are just fisherman...nothing more

Garfish 05-19-2010 07:50 AM

I was wondering what happened to Steve Shook. I've seen some of the big fish he's brought in before from the Timbalier area. Yeah, he used the biggest pogies he could catch. When fishing there w/ my uncle and cousins the only thing we could ever catch on them big pogies was bull reds and sharks.
