Yes, I got a ticket. Didn't cause an "accident", either. A scene, maybe, but not an "accident". Just lettin' Bryan know how things work here.

It's not really that different anywhere else.

I got a ticket, tried to get it dismissed. The officer that wrote the ticket said :shaking:, so, I let it go. When it came time to pay the ticket....there was no ticket.

I am just countering what you said, its all one's opinion just like it was the officer's discretion to not write the guy who hit your daughter a ticket, it was the officer's discretion to write you a ticket and it was all a 'waist' of time for that officer because the ticket was eventually dropped by one of his higher ups:) It works both ways

Bryan, I saw the report. It says, "Collision Report".

Things are probably done differently here in "Bugtussle" than where you're at. I got a ticket for improper changing of lanes a couple years back. I was on my way to Delacroix at 3:00 in the morning. I changed lanes without using a signal and an officer (one of the couple that I didn't know) pulled me over. I told him I was probably going faster than the 45 mph and, yet, you pull me over for changin' lanes when there is no other vehicle in sight? I asked a buddy on the force to see if he could get it dismissed. He said the officer said "no" because I was an "azzhole". I went to the chief. He called the officer in and he said, "No...because he was an azzhole". Well, sometime between that moment and the time I was supposed to pay the fine ($175)...any and all records of the ticket ever being issued were missing. As far as I know they might still be lookin' for it.

Pretty sure why the officer say you were an azzhole. Also just think with the right timing when you changed lanes without signaling there could of been a family getting ready to pass you up and without a signal, you could of hit and caused the driver to loose control and hurt or kill a family member, yet you are upset because your daughter's new Murano was hit and his insurance will fix it.
I wish you would be honest and admit that if your daughter would of ran a stop sign and caused a wreck, we would of never known about it.
Have a good one and let the LEs do their job, in case you need one, one day

I posted exactly what I said to the officer that pulled me over...nothing more, nothing less. Had he written me a ticket for speeding...I would have paid it because I probably was doing over 45 mph...like I stated. It was his opinion that I was an "azzhole". No other officer seemed to think so.

You're right...there could have been a "family getting ready to pass" me and "without a signal", I "could of hit and caused the driver to 'loose' control and hurt or kill a family member", but, had there been an approaching vehicle...I wouldn't have changed lanes at all. Not only have I never been in a fist fight...I've never been involved in a highway "collision", either.

I will gladly PM my daughter's cell # to you so you can ask her how quickly dear ole dad got her speeding ticket "fixed" two months ago. She will know exactly what you're referrin' to. Just let me know.

By your comments, I don't think you like me very much and I don't really give a damn. There are many people that feel the same way about this matter as I do. We can just agree to disagree, but, there's no need for all the "Anger Management" comments and assuming how I would react if the situation were reversed. Like you said earlier...you don't know me at all.

Salty, call me and I'll explain the depreciation aspects to you and how to get it taken care of. Yes, it is real because, now, it will be listed as a vehicle previously involved in a collision. Carfax is a real sob when it comes to this stuff but, butcher shops made the site neccessary.

There is a way that she can be comped for this.

OK, guys...before this thread gets moved to the Gill Net, I'd like to extend a sincere apology to anyone that was offended in the least by any of my comments. I originally posted this to vent and I was assuming that everyone felt the same way that I do. Apparently not and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I never intended it to become a shoutin' match.

Salty, this actually happened this past Saturday since I didn't go fishing due to weather. I was asked to work days on patrol since they were short handed. At about 1pm, I am in a high drug traffic area when I see a small SUV with all the bells & whistles (rims, curb feelers, etc) roll through a stop sign. I flip a U-turn, and activate my lights. The guy drives 2 blocks before turning left and coming to a stop at a house w/ a large group. In the driveway of that house is a truck that has a guy talking to the driver of that truck. He turns around to see me and takes off running. So now I have a traffic stop for running a stop sign, that is now developing into something more. The driver of the vehicle gets out and in a loud voice and attitude ask "man, what you want w/ me, I work for the city". I inform him why I stopped him, and he throws out "man, I anint no drug dealer, why don't you go chase a crack head."

At this point, I tell him to get his insurance and registration and meet me at the rear of his vehicle. Now he comes at me all PO'ed, again telling me he works for the city. I then point to the smoke covered lens over his plate and tell him that is illegal, to which he reponds by throwing his arms around and states "man, a trooper told me that as long as you can see the numbers I'm good".

At that point, I tell him he may want to subpeona his trooper friend so he can tell it to the judge. I could have walked away, pushed it. I wrote him for the stop sign and plate cover, he signed his ticket and I wished him a nice day. Three hours later, I was off duty and headed home when I stopped by the residence of the boss and gave him the ticket. I explained to him what the guy said and he was pushing his employment with the city in front of a large group of people. I was commended on how I handled it and Monday, the guy called an apologized for being confrontational. I knew the ticket would go nowhere before I opened my pen, but I had to show the public that we are a fair and equal department.

I'm writing this to make you aware that if you push one way too hard, the guy with the badge may go the opposite way of what you want. Is it possible you were a little too "vocal" on the scene of your daughters accident? Just a thought!

Salty 06-26-2012 04:25 PM

Bryan, I want to make sure you know that I have the utmost respect for officers of the law. That includes you!!

Had I been an azz yesterday on the scene, I would have understood why the officer might not have cited the dude for blowin' the stop sign. I didn't even mention it until after the dude had driven away. I asked if drivers get cited in these situations and he asked if I was asking if he wrote the dude a ticket. At the time, I didn't know whether he had or not.

Finfeatherfur 06-26-2012 04:34 PM

Hey, no worries on my end. It's all just conversation. I got written up by a trooper once and his comment to me was "nice badge" when I open my wallet. I will be the first to admit, we have some "A" holes out there! I look at it like doctors, some have the personality of an onion, some are cool. No different in cops!

I am pretty much an azz, but, there have been situations with law enforcement when it almost got me in trouble. ;) Several times, tho, they just thought it was funny and blew it off. It was always sarcasm...nothing personal.

As far as the insurance goes....he only had the legal limit liability on that piece of crap. I'm gonna let it go, but, I still don't agree.

Do you realize the insurance company is responsible for the depreciation value of her vehicle. Look in to it you should get enough compensation to calm your nerves.

its all good, i try and take up for some of the LEOs, i do not want their job:)

Salty 06-26-2012 06:05 PM

I have a friend with the sherriff's Dept. I called to ask him his thoughts. He said if the officer had no questions concerning how the "accident" actually played out and if the other driver openly admitted to being at fault....a citation should have been issued. He said this is basically the procedure that they follow as a department.
