I read the last few pages. I bought a riceland spec call at the expo. Hands down easiest call I have ever blown. Awesome and sounds great. Second who in here hunts rice fuelds? How many decoys y'all throw? Average will work. Just curious to see how my setup is versus others. Thanks in advance

Good choice, it's hands down the best speck call made. All I hunt is rice fields and we usually put about 18 decoys out. Sometimes we will put 3, sometimes 36. Just depends on what's workin the best. Don't be scared to change your spread mid hunt if you feel it's just not right.

cmcnabb 08-03-2012 07:53 PM

Micah, did you get your duck strap from Cecil musgrove? I have one just like that made by him

bgizzle 08-03-2012 07:56 PM

You talkin specs r ducks? The one I used to hunt I made my spread small n tight n close to the levee because it was close to 699. This will be new territory to me hunting in pine island... If we get the lease.

x2! I've hunted with no decoys late season before and just work them with the call and kill em.

bgizzle 08-03-2012 08:07 PM

Nice..

bgizzle 08-03-2012 08:08 PM

I've done 2 just a pair of mallards and the rest pooldoo but never 0

cmcnabb 08-03-2012 08:09 PM

Bgizzle, I'm talkin specks

bgizzle 08-03-2012 08:13 PM

10/4 yea I do the same fa dem suckers.

DUCKGOGETTER 08-03-2012 08:14 PM

What i would do is do a little scouting and drive around the area and see how the specks are sitting in a field and the pattern they're in. Make a mental note and set your decoys in the pattern. The best thing to remember about specks is it's more about concealment and calling then decoys.

i've gotten away from targeting mainly specks like i used to ever since i got on the lease in gc. I love shooting ducks in the marsh don't get me wrong, but there's nothing like working specks and watching them respond to the call. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

bgizzle 08-03-2012 09:00 PM

That's my cup of tea as well. Being able to talk to them and then they respond and listen to you then just come in on a string. They hard headed like a woman sometimes but in the end they listen better and give you a better response. This field in particular will be duck and goose. Probably put ducks in front specks behind kill the mojos bout 730. I've gone thru to many remotes to buy another one they don't hold up for me so I just turn em on for early flights and when the specs start flyin I turn em off. I'll try n work the first couple groups with em on but that's the first thing I'll change for sure. Easy to change that rather than jus letting em flare and Go on the next man

Not sure what picture you're talking about but personally don't own one, just use the one my cousin has. I believe he got it from him, said he got it several years ago.

I wouldn't start countin til after the 5th shot lol

bgizzle 08-06-2012 05:10 PM

Lol. All depends on whom it is I've seen ppl 300 yds away and watch 200teal literally two huge wads one from east one from west joined together and dove in on 3 exp hunters and they didn't knock a feather. When asked about it they said they don't remember aiming at a bird. It's amazing if you FLOCK shoot you don't knock a feather but by picking one bird and drawing a good bead and holding composure you will knock multiple birds down in a single shot.
