Newer better hull design and performance will prevail. As other brand hulls were one time at or near the top of the want list and have descended that list, so to will the haynie be one day. Innovation, engineering and newer materials will always drive another better design in waiting to trump what is currently on top. To those who can pay cash for the latest/greatest hull brand fantastic. That is the way it should be done. It is those who have to finance a hull and be in debt to a lending institution, that is a contributor why our nations economy is in the current state.

LOL...Yea Ok..... I financed mine for 5years and Had a offer of 2K less then I paid for it.....Plus I went though State Farm bank and got 5.8% interest on a Boat.... My boat motor has a 5 year warranty and my Hull lifetime....So when I pay off my boat...My note will be paid off...If I keep it that long

Now ...I advise no one to finance your taxes in... Pay your taxes cash

It is pertty harsh to say that someone that has a loan for a boat contributed to our current economy. As long as people are putting money down to have some equity and making their payments and are not putting themselves above thier family then I don't see anything wrong with a guy borrowing money to acquire a boat. It would be really hard for most average income folks to ever come up with enough cash to enjoy boat ownership. I would hate to see something as great as our sport be taken away from the majority of our fishermen.

cajunhntr03 03-26-2011 01:22 PM

it aint financing that has ruined our economy It was people that paying for their debts that hurt us The gov put an emphasis on lending out money so institutions lent out money to those that should not have qualified Take a hard look at credit scores Those that have great scores are those that have borrowed money If you were to pay all your big purchases and not finance them you would have poor credit scores ........ I am gunna finance some of my boat But I pay all my notes on time .......Besides, I am making a better % on my money in investments than I have to pay by borrowing

Roger that..... Losing a job or serious health condition I could see someone having to default on payments....but thats not even most cases...

My Mom has a Mortgage company in Lafayette....and she said that you would be surprised at the collage kids getting credit cards and maxing them all out....then defaulting on them.... Bankrupt...

If anyone is going to buy a boat....1st they should know it will cost them a lot to keep it up plus fuel.

I love watching these young kids offshore buy 50K trucks and tires....I ask them...How long did you finance that.... 7 years..... Then I ask.... Do you plan on living with your mommy for 7 more years??? Most never even think about it. Just I can cover the note. I know a guy offshore who bought a 45,000 boat and had it repo 6 months later.... I said dude ***??? He said Man: I did nt know the insurance and note plus gas would cost that much.... Then i ask...Why not sell it then have to go under on that note....I also told him that your credit is what gets you by in life! Good credit can get you financed for anything with lower payments and even get you a better job...... He said...I dont need credit im 19 years old:shaking::shaking::shaking::shaking::shaking:

Thats kind of harsh....If the dude can pay cash...More power to him...

But I can make 18% or more in the market with my cash....and borrow from the bank less than 5% ....

So I look at this... 50,000 @5% note...or 50,000 15-25% market gain...

Ill take the market for $200

Yea. It is harsh.. But stupid statements like that need to b responded to with harshness ...... Less that 10% of people pay cash for their boats, trucks, Homes, etc.
To say that financing purchases is a bad move is stupid and obvisouly this guy needs a reality check.

They should use Tiggerdroppings Rules

1. DO choose your user name carefully when you first register. Search the Member List to check for names that are similar to yours.

2. DO NOT “flame the board.” “Flaming” is the deliberate act of creating a post in order to incite members of the board and invoke a negative response.

3. DO NOT expect any tolerance for statements, opinions, or views that are bigoted, racist, sexist, or hateful. Further, linking to sites that contain such content is prohibited.

4. DO NOT engage in personal attacks on other users. Healthy debate is expected and encouraged, but take the childish insults elsewhere. This is particularly true with regard to visitors from other schools. Moderators will be especially watchful for verbal abuse, ridicule, ad hominem attacks, and stalking.

5. DO NOT engage in baseless criticism of LSU athletes, coaches, administrators or recruits. Legitimate evaluation of a player's performance or a coach’s ability is allowed, but personal attacks and insults are prohibited.

6. DO NOT post ANY adult or sexually explicit content OR links to adult or sexually explicit content.

7. DO NOT use excessive profanity. Profanity is discouraged, and depending on the context in which it is used, might result in removal of your post.

8. DO choose a subject line that accurately describes the content of your post. Do not use deceptive subjects to attract attention to your post. Do not use one or two-word subjects that provide no description. And do not post in ALL CAPS.

9. DO NOT threaten another user with physical violence or retribution of any nature whatsoever.

10. DO take a minute to check for an existing thread on a topic of interest to you before starting a new thread.

11. DO not posting anything that could potentially harm (or embarrass) LSU or TigerDroppings.com.

Enforcement of these rules lay with the board administrators. Violations may subject the user to suspension or, in some cases, removal of the user’s account.

• Your post(s) will be whacked if you:
o “Call someone out.”
o “Spam” the board, i.e., attempt to sell goods or services, or direct users to commercial sites, without prior authorization from board management.
o Threaten anyone.
o Stalk another poster, i.e., repeatedly reply to his/her posts for the purpose of ridiculing, mocking, insulting, or flaming.
o Post pictures or link to web sites showing nude men or women, male or female genitalia, or female nipples. This includes images in which such features can be seen through clothing. For women, "nude" means without top and/or bottom. Administrators may block any other images deemed inappropriate.
o Post unsubstantiated information about LSU players, coaches, administrators or officials. Rumors will not be tolerated. News must at least be reported by a mainstream media outlet to support its posting. Other LSU message boards do not count as mainstream media.
o Post copyrighted material from other web sites.
o Flame other boards and brag about it here, or whine about what users on other boards are saying about LSU. If you have a problem with another board, take it up with that board's management.
o Create outlandish posts with no other purpose but to flame.

• Your post(s) may be whacked if you:
o Start a new thread for every thought that pops into your head.
o Start a new thread in response to an existing thread.
o Start a new thread commenting on an existing thread anywhere on the site.
o Use an excessive amount of emoticons (i.e., smileys) in a post.
o Use gratuitous profanity.

We still have one in our fleet that is a 97 model. And another boat by Bill Kenner, the Frontier, also has wood.

Back in 90's everybody used wood in boats, and done correctley boat will

or later. Friend had 02 Kenner hull floor went soft in 06 indoor stored. You mention he used wood on the Frontier, he does and that boat is a price point
for his company (entry level priced bay boay) his self proclaimed the best boat he has every built Blackjack 100% NO WOOD Composite.

HUH? You make no sense

boatdriver 03-27-2011 10:44 AM

I agree, boats with wood are slightly over priced. I wish the Haynie's were lower. With that being said, it serves the right purpose for me.

Ray 03-27-2011 10:54 AM

Wood in boats will last, if you know how to take care of them.
If you don't, it can be bad for you if you don't fix crackes or keep screws/bolts tight.
I have a 30 year old boat with wood in the decks, no soft spots at all. But I like playing with old boats. They are my hobby.

The issues with wood under fiberglass is that you don' know, or not sure when water will get under the fiberglass. Everything attached needs to be sealed and thru bolted with a backing plate and lock nuts. Screwed down items need to be sealed, and make sure you check that the screws are tight so water cannot get under the fiberglass.
If water gets under the fiberglass, it takes a long time to dry, if it does dry. If it rots, the only way to fix it is to remove the fiberglass, remove the rotten wood, replace with more wood or a composite and re-fiberglass. Not cheap.

Wood has a much better strength to weight ratio than the composites. But composites are getting better, and composites don't rot.

Boats with wood can be built in any shape or form and are much more customizable.

specknation 03-27-2011 11:04 AM

My dad had a local made skiff kept it 20 years, but every time he mounted into the boat
it was my job to put 3M 5200 in the hole. The Champion boat company in 99 almost went out of buisness trying to change to composite, the warranty clamis for Composite Cracking just about took them under. A lot of backyard type boat builders do not use
composite because they are from the old school of building boats and are scared to use
it, it is a lot more labor to do composite correct. My last boat was a Canyon Bay and I
spent some time if Florida checking out my boat during the making of it.

There is nothing wrong with wood in a boat if done right. My whaler is a 1970 and still solid as a rock. Biggest thing is to keep it covered not allowing standing water on the floors.

Hurry up and sell me your boat before I buy that rocket. BTW, Mercury has a new Verado Pro series - supposed to have the same performance as as ProXS :p

I am sure the wood in your hull has already dry rotted so I am ready to deal.:work:

Thanks for the heads up, I am on the phone with Mercury now trying to work out a trade for the faster engine. ;)

If you get that baby 250 you will have a really nice view of my Talon. Don't be scared, buy the Yam 300.
