My dad and I will be making a snapper run Saturday.
Driving in Saturday morning. Plan to be at Bridgeside Marina around 6:30a.m.

It sure would make me feel a lot better about being 20-30 miles offshore with 1 motor if I could stay in VHF contact with some of you guys that are going to be out there.

If anyone that will be offshore with a VHF wouldnt mind making radio contact with me early saturday let me know.

Thanks

Dink 06-04-2013 10:41 PM

Call me tomorrow. You can run out with us. 337-247-8465. Tim

T-Bone 06-05-2013 08:17 AM

Forecast is looking better and better. I'm pumped.

Dink 06-05-2013 11:46 AM

Don't Jinx it man!!

Mako19 06-07-2013 08:28 AM

Seas still looking reeeel good!
I'm going to make a bait run to GulfWay in Kaplan at lunch.

You guys recommend Pogey for snapper bait over mullet, spanish sardines, squid etc..?

swamp snorkler 06-07-2013 08:58 AM

Hey guys..... be careful. http://www.thehulltruth.com/gulf-coa...sing-boat.html

latravcha 06-07-2013 10:19 AM

Stuff happens real fast out there. I was caught several years ago in a big cat. Weather was flat calm and called for 1' or less seas with a 30% chance of thunderstorms. Had a huge storm roll in on us and we could not out run them. We saw 3 water spouts before the storm reached us. Went from flat calm to 8'+ with huge chop in a matter of minutes. Port motor ended up getting swamped and the cap of the boat was separated when a 10’+ hit us from the side. This we filled up one of the pontoons. Had the starboard motor hammered just to keep the bow pointed into the waves. All 5 guys had life vest on and we were tethered together. First time I ever made a mayday call and hope I never have to again. We activated the EPS on the radio, had eperb, and dry box with flares and emergency signaling devices in hand ready for the boat to go over. The storm only lasted 45 minutes but I did not think we were going to make it back. This gave me a new respect of going offshore.

Montauk17 06-07-2013 12:40 PM

That is Tim's dad that posted on the hull truth...hope they got the boat back.

I will be taking a couple of them fishing tomorrow. I will have a couple fellers to help me push the Cobia off a reef or sand bar if stuff happens.

Anybody talk with crab and crew? Good friends with crab and crew, i'm sure after getting all the **** out of their shorts they got real real drunk and haven't stopped. Crab got caught in some bad weather last week out of sabine in a 22' cat by a T storm . Its good to have luck on your side and the man above looking over you.

eman 06-09-2013 05:26 PM

There were more than a few prayers said after that storm hit and we realized they hadn't made it back yet. If one of them want's to tell the story so be it. If not i understand. The captain made some good decisions once he knew the weather had them in trouble and did the best thing he could have done. Glad to see everyone again this year.

mr crab 06-09-2013 06:51 PM

We had set up on a submerged rig about 24 miles off G.I. and were having a hard time holding the spot because of all the current. I was in the process of trying to reposition the boat and got my fishing line wrapped in the prop BAD. That's when we noticed the weather starting to build. Had there not been the issue with the line in the prop I really think we would have made it in NO PROBLEM. So I put on a life jacket and had to pull the prop while floating in the water. It took about 30-45 minutes to pull the prop dig out all the line and remount the prop. By then the storm was in full swing. We headed north toward Caminada Pass, and only made it about 6 miles when I saw the Supply vessel. I made the decision to ask permission to board the supply boat to ensure the personal safety of the crew above all else. Boats can be replaced. So once the Capt. gave us permission, we boarded the boat, and rode out the storm through the night. In the morning, we woke up, retrieved the boat and came on in. Thanks for the prayers sent. We were scared as hell, but everybody stayed calm and did what it took to stay safe in some pretty crazy circumstances.

Montauk17 06-09-2013 07:55 PM

Crazy story glad yall made it out and got the boat back....no damages to the boat?

We were in the 22 ft. Twin Vee that ya'll passed right by at 19 miles. We were sitting on an artificial reef. Ya'll waved to us when passing by. We caught our snapper fast and got a text that said severe weather coming fast get in. We loaded up and headed in ASAP. We hit the bad weather at about 5 miles from Caminada Pass. The wind picked up to at least 30-35 from the North and made for horrible seas. We could barely see in front of the boat but knew at that point our best option was to keep the bow in the waves and moving forward. We were worried about you guys all evening and kept saying that we hope ya'll hunkered down and made it safely. Glad to hear everyone made it safely!

There was no rain on the radar when we left the camp that day. It was a 45 minute boat ride and took us 1 hour to catch all of our snapper and by that time it was too late to get back in before the storm had built up and moved our way. ALWAYS RESPECT THE WEATHER OUT THERE!
