I talked to him on PM and he said the Yammy 150 would push Z21 good....Im calling him this afternoon and get more details....I just dont see how a Merc can beat a 4 stroke Yam...

You've obviously never been on a Merc powered Haynie.......

I'm going out on a limb here. There is only one 2 stroke motor I will own and thats a Mercury optimax. If I was to buy a 4 stroke it would be a Suzuki. It uses a timing chain not some high maintenance belt motor.

The guide I fished with in S. Texas had a Mercury-powered Haynie. That sucker would fly.

Merc....will fly into the boat shop for a monthly repair!!:rotfl::*****::*****:Fished Big Lak yesterday and we picked up 24 trout and 3 white trout all on plastics and top water. Also, I saw what looked like to be a 24' Haynie (likely a guide boat).

Ray 07-24-2009 02:19 PM

I saw a very nice looking Shearwater in Big Lake yesterday with a big Mercury on the back. It had MI letters. Is that Michigan, Mississippi or Missouri?

all star rod 07-24-2009 03:04 PM

Ray I saw it too as I was leaving the landing. It was parked on the side road by a camp....pretty color....looked to be a very dark blue. Those are nice boats. I would assume a 24' would run you $50K easily.

he will be crying after he gets caught un a thunder bommer and doest make it in in time or when he puts 3 or 4 people and gear in it. Oh well thats him:*****:

all star rod 07-24-2009 04:06 PM

He will be crying when that storm is coming and that MERC will not start. I think when you buy a MERC it automatically comes with one year free of SEATOW and a marine radio...:*****::*****:Also, going an extra 5-7 mph faster will save you what 2-3 minutes over a 10 miles stretch.

NOW THAT FUNNY RIGHT THERE:*****::*****::*****::*****:..... 25hp Merc I will take all day....but when it comes to big motor.....Yammahammer :D

LaAngler 07-24-2009 04:20 PM

i had a fairly late model 25 merc i thought it sucked

225 HPDI would be nice too

all star rod 07-24-2009 04:28 PM

Really if I ever owned a MERC it would be an Optimax. I just think Yamaha is a better motor. Most guides and people that run crab traps have Yamaha 4 strokes. This should tell you something since they are on the water basically every day. The 4 stroke Yamaha 150 is a lot more powerful/work horse motor than you would think and it is very, very quiet!
