400 yard retrieve. Damn what do you have against a dog? Might want to be a little more selective with your shots, work the birds a little closer in, and work on your shooting.
20 pages here we come! |

Let me put in perspective for you, it's like him saying I bet I can shoot a teal out the sky at 40yds with a rimfire rifle and you can't. You take the bet for whatever reason and you show up with a .22, teal flies by you shoot and miss. His turn, he walks to the truck and grabs a remington 870 12 gauge shotgun. You call BS and he says what do you mean, "my ole trusty 870 is a rimfire rifle, cause thats what pawdaddy always called it." Eventhough there is tons of literature and qualifications stating what a rimfire rifle is, he refuses to understand. |

Just as in the previous post....... Way too many factors for a retrieve of that nature. I can see a dog lining a 150-200 yard blind, but 400, ain't gonna happen. |

Personally, I think teal are tender enough fresh out the sky. They don't need a rock dog playing rag doll with them to make them edible. Teach him to do that with snows and it'll save you time with that tenderizing hammer!:work: |

If he were betting that his dog can run a REAL 400yd BLIND, you'd have a line of people ready to take every nickel the man ever made and then another line willing to take IOUs after he lost all his money. |

Now, that is a dog I'd pay to hunt with. It would be cool to see a poodle with a mallard in the mouth!!! |
If your dog can take 400+ yard lines then you my friend do not have a rock dog. You have a self trained dog that is good. You are actually on our team because you don't have to throw rocks your dog is just on anotha leval because he can go without casting. So we actually are on the same team and btw I think the fair thing is go 10K on your marsh blind then I'll challenge you to a 20K blind (i'll make up the definition as i see fit) of my choosing both have to be accepted before you can decide to stack the odds.

I learned to never misinterpret the true meaning of a blind.
|
Just remember I will take your 10K bet with my ribbon dog but you have to take my 20k bet after. I know you have your definition of a blind but we can run my definition after that. I trained my dog myself however I used a program.
I honestly believe you have a nice dog and I'm not downplaying your dog but your bet it horribly stacked in your favor, not many dogs ribbon or rock can run 4 football fields through a marsh with no guidance. Its like challenging a big lake fishing guide to surf fishing in Texas, that's not what they fish for and your example is not what most trainers train for. I have hunted with rock dogs that are good and rock dogs that are terrible. The same with people that have paid money for dogs. The amount of money thrown at a dog does not mean the dog is quaility and people overpay for underperforming dogs just like guide services, used cars, and hunting leases. A dog with experience wins the majority of the time in hunting situations regardless of money vested. I hope your dog retrieves every duck and that you are happy with him. You need to try and relax with Raymonds definition of rock dogs, he says most all of his responses in jest and actually tries to help the majority of people on the site with dog advice, help people with lost dogs, and will allow the majority of people to come and pick a mark up with his gear for free. Don't take life to seriously you won't get out of this thing alive. |

First off anybody that would send their dog on a 100 yard much less a 400 yard blind or make is a fool. No duck is worth my dog getting lost, hurt, attacked by any animal, and god forbid get killed for a duck. To much can happen out there. Just my 2 cents.

I hunted at a well known lodge when I was 15. When a blackbird landed about 5 yards from the blind is said, "I wish I had a rock." The guide reached in his pocket and handed me a rock.

Can a couch dog enter this $1M competition? I've got two that hold our couch down amazingly! I'd bet they'd go 400 yds to retrieve a spot on it too! Well, maybe not directly there...the old one would have to take a couple of breaks along the way. The lab would be there as soon as you said "couch" though!

Can we make 20+
