blood donors

My wife talked me into going with her today to donate blood. She does it quite often but I never have. Don't like needles....never have, never will. She called me a wuss so I agreed to go. They love her O-Negative blood but they wouldn't take mine. Said it was OU-Positive.

Dink 05-31-2011 08:05 PM

I did it last week......1 drink is all it took that night!

booyagasha 05-31-2011 08:13 PM

i do it because it literally can save someone's life. Also, I do it because if EVER I'M IN NEED, I get priority.

Hopedale Hustler 05-31-2011 08:33 PM

I donate 1 time a month sometimes 2....I figure however I can help....I'd hope if I was ever laying there in a hospital "in need" I'd be able to get what I needed so y not make it happen for a couple others too.

wtretrievers 05-31-2011 08:38 PM

Sadly too say I saw 1st hand how blood donors can help others in need....my hats off to all that donate.

Salty 05-31-2011 08:43 PM

My wife says that it's actually healthy to donate blood. Apparently, it allows your body to make a new batch. They denied me 'cause they said I'm "slightly" anemic.

booyagasha 05-31-2011 08:47 PM

and you get free snacks and JUICE!! hell yeah lol:p:grinpimp:

booyagasha 05-31-2011 10:15 PM

i've taken phlebotomy classes and can tell you that THEY ARE MORE SCARED THAN YOU ARE!!!.In that class I was new, so considered a "freshman" and the "seniors" practiced drawing blood from the"freshmans" I've had more times than not, where the person drawing my blood is shaking more than I am. lol Thats why i can damn near draw my own blood now, you go through that S****S and you'll have tough skin FOSHO

Salty 05-31-2011 10:31 PM

I've had bloodwork done and just about pass out or get nauseated. Can't even look at the needle. :shaking: And that only lasts a minute or so.

I always turn my head when they stick the needle in and I don't look at it either, especially if they're taking a vile of blood. I gave a few times in college for extra credit and once for a friend who got in a bad car accident.

LPfishnTIM 05-31-2011 10:47 PM

I have seen blood shoot out of a vain after the needle came out! ALL I COULD SAY WAS DANG!

If that was me...I'd just hope it happened in a hospital.

Salty.... do you remember back when you would get paid when you gave blood?

You could get some spending money back when I was in College.

jchief 06-01-2011 05:02 AM

I used to give regularly at the FD, then I had a positive PPD. Can't give anymore.

Got lots of shouts when I was a kid, so I overcame the needle phobia thing

You do the "only platelets" donation?

I usually do the "double red blood cell" donation which takes a little longer and I have to wait almost 4 months before I can give again but they say they're able to get more out of it.

Hopedale Hustler 06-01-2011 07:44 AM

I do the regular deal never knew I could do the other thing here in baton rouge...ima have to check into it

You might need to check your blood pressure there haus... your lucky it wasn't an artery. Worked in heart surgery for 3 years and i have seen some gushers shoot up in the air 8 feet high leaving the ceiling stained.
