Maiden Voyage........Update....`

The salesman that sold me the boat called today..........owner of the marina had him call and tell me that if the motor needed serious repair to call them, that they wanted to help me out..............I only called them the One time to tell them what happened. I was sure they'd tell me to frick off, but there ya go. There ARE still some stand up folks in this world..................Still no word from mechanic as to whats wrong w/ it, but I'm patient............Tim

Not to be harsh but do yourself a favor and get your boat away from master marine.I had a motor that came from them that they welded the flywheel nut on! Im not trying to talk trash,I know this for a fact.Do yourself a favor and bring it to ANYONE but master marine.

Montauk17 08-12-2009 08:21 AM

Sorry to hear that man,I had a feeling that was the problem after you said it died and when you tryed to re start it the starter would not turn it. Try to make sure they use all mercury pistons, bearings, and seals, not aftermarket. If you need any help let me know bro.

SULPHITE 08-12-2009 08:45 AM

That really really sucks man...hopefully good luck will follow!!

Dink 08-12-2009 08:52 AM

I look at it this way........I'll have a TOP NOTCH rig when all this is over........won't worry bout hittin the gulf after this.......should be good to go!!

all star rod 08-12-2009 09:00 AM

Besides offering parts at cost, they said "thats some bad luck you got"..........I'll be talkin to a lawyer later about it..........I don't think it was right to advertise it as only 49 hours if it wasn't.........To me thats like rolling back the odometer on a car to sell it for more...................the low hours was the BIGGEST selling point for me..........there were a few newer models with more hours, they were even closer to home, but I passed on them, AND they were cheaper!!!!

The Old Caster 08-12-2009 05:19 PM

Tim, give Byron Harris a call at 225-698-6272, he is a great outboard man who does all my work, and he races for Mercury Marine, so he knows them inside and out. He may be able to save you some money and he WILL do the job right!

flounder_smacker 08-12-2009 05:38 PM

i could be wrong but if you bought the boat from a dealer i think there is like a 40 day lemon law or something. you should contact your lawyer and make sure and do it before you run out of time. kind of strange you buy a used boat and it blows on you the second trip. my guess is something was wrong with it before. i could be wrong and you just have really bad luck. any way sorry to hear that. what cylinder was it?

all star rod 08-12-2009 05:40 PM

Dude I hear ya that sucks....That is the one reason why I NEVER buy nothing used...boat, car, 4-wheeler. Hard to believe that it was just bad luck. Buy the boat and put what not even 5 hours and this happens. You would think they would go thru the boat/motor before they would sell it???? But you never know. Hope it works out. Sad part is if you get a lawyer it will likely cost you more for the lawyer then the repairs.

I hope that you can beat them into a corner! I would start advertising their name on EVERY site you can find. When they ask you to stop, tell them you will when they right what they wronged. You may be surprised at how quick they respond. I'd put an ad in their local paper in the boat section of the classifieds. Run them under the bus! Remember, it's not slander if it's a fact.:pissed::pissed::pissed:

Montauk17 08-12-2009 09:09 PM

Hey tim we have a laptop at work that we can plug into the main computer on the engine to show how many hours it really has.......

all star rod 08-12-2009 09:12 PM

If it is an older engine I do not think you can do that. I have a buddy of mine that has a carb yamaha 150 that is like 8 or 9 years old and you cannot do that with his motor from what he has told me.....maybe he is wrong or maybe it is just certain motors??

Montauk17 08-12-2009 09:14 PM

Your right, depends on the year.....what year is it tim?

Dink 08-12-2009 09:36 PM

It's a 1999 2ltr merc 150hp.........

Montauk17 08-12-2009 09:52 PM

I'll find out tomorrow if we have the software to plug in,i will give you a ring bro

Dink 08-12-2009 10:01 PM

It don't plug into nuthin but the gas hose...............but thanks for the thought bro.......Talk to you soon.......Tim

Montauk17 08-12-2009 10:17 PM

LaAngler 08-13-2009 01:06 PM

had to be an oil issue that burnt it up

Montauk17 08-13-2009 01:13 PM

more than likeley.....make sure they disconnect the oil pump gear and pre mix from now on

Ray 08-13-2009 01:32 PM

I did that on a 200 Merc. after the oil pump went out while I was 34 miles offshore.
Sent to a friends dad who worked for Gene's, and he took the oil injection system
off the engine and I just mixed the oil in the gas tank. Made me feel a lot more
better knowing that won't happen again.

jpeff31787 08-13-2009 01:34 PM

dink if your ever off during the week or whenever i don't have anyone to go with I'd like to get a small crew from here on the water. We can go in my boat unless someone else has a bigger boat. We only have a 19fter so...

I'm thinking about taking a day off of work soon one day to go

eman 08-13-2009 03:28 PM

ouch

Just got off the phone w/ tim and yes he did have an oil problem.
Previous owner has disconected the oil pump hose but had left the tank and gear on the motor. had been mixing his fuel.
He didn;'t tell the broker and the broker who said they had checked the boat and motor out . (NOT) didn't inform tim that it was now a premix.
So he made a test run and 1.5 trips on no oil.
I think the broker should be partly responsible since they didn't inform tim that the oil pump had been disconected.

LaAngler 08-13-2009 03:32 PM

i wonder if it was smoking at all

chances are it had oil at the dealer and then after it was topped off it burnt up

SULPHITE 08-13-2009 04:18 PM

I bet she was hauling...running lean...

Montauk17 08-13-2009 07:49 PM

I bet the previous owner had some gas in the boat that was already premixed.....if it was straight gas theres no way you would have made it that far. That bull**** that they failed to metion it was dissconnected :(

BigCoon 08-13-2009 08:33 PM

Legally, the dealer is responsible because they sold a modified engine without notifying the new owner of the modification. He would win hands down in court, if it came to that.

Montauk17 08-13-2009 08:40 PM

Not sure if they are still responsible since it was under consignment

BigCoon 08-13-2009 08:42 PM

If they had knowledge of the modification, the dealer is responsible, if not, the previous owner is liable.

Montauk17 08-13-2009 08:50 PM

yeah but i think he bought it in flordia that might be a pain

Reverend Redfish 08-13-2009 09:39 PM

Hands down - no doubt, Tim wins this lawsuit..... Makes no difference if the dealer knew about the engine modification or not... It's the dealers responsibility to know what it is they are selling.

eman 08-14-2009 07:36 AM

boat

I would have to agree w/ the right rev. redfish, Especially since they told tim tim that they had gone over the motor to make sure it was ok b4 they sold it to him. I think a 10 yo kid could have seen a hose disconnected from the motor.
If you're going public w/ the problem Do it in the news paper where the dealer is located. Also outdoor web sites in Fla. Get the message out to there customer base,

Dink 08-14-2009 09:33 AM

I didn't sllep much last night thinking about this...........the old owner is an elderly gent......I'm not sure I feel right goin after him for this when it could be just a lapse in information...........I DON"T believe this is my fault though..........I'm going to call the dealership AGAIN today and discuss it w/ both the owner and the salesman........I'm not looking to rake anyone over the coals on this, but would like help w/ the bill..........maybe half?? Again........I DO NOT believe thisw is my fault..........Tim

LittleRob 08-14-2009 10:06 AM

Good luck with it

Raymond 08-14-2009 10:29 AM

Tim, bad luck on the motor but I would consult an attorney about taking this to small claims court in Lafayette. If your judgement holds up, the dealership will have to make it right. Judgements will totally wreck the dealerships ability to continue their finance program and most of them are on finance programs for their inventory. It will be in their best interest to take care of this before it gets to small claims court. My second course of action would be to visit some local dealers and find out if it is customary to inform buyers of used equipment about any modifications the equipment.
Under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution, a judgment by a state court must be fully recognized and respected by every other state. For example, suppose the prevailing party in a California case knows that the defendant has assets in Arizona that could be used to pay the judgment. The prevailing party may docket the California judgment in the Arizona county court where the defendant's property is located. With the judgment now in effect in Arizona, the prevailing party may obtain a writ of execution that will authorize the sheriff in that Arizona county to seize the property to satisfy the judgment.
