The end to a weekend....
4 Attachment(s)
I had a great time spending the weekend down at Heberts and fishing the tournament. The family decided it would be a great day to go tubing and knee boarding, so I left BL went home grabbed the boat, everyone loaded up and we went and launched at 2-10 launch.
Went tubing for a few hours and then the storm and lightning started to hit. Pulled the boat out of the water and was going to let the storm blow over and lightning stop only to pull around in the parking lot and have 2 U bolts break and then a 3rd one as I was dragging it out of everyone's way.... Decided to call a wrecker with a roll back to come get it for me....No one would come get a boat that size.....I was in a bind but gave my good friend and Brother Mason a call and to my resucue he came.... What an ending to a good weekend. Not complaining though because it always could have been worse.....;) |
Glad you got your boat back safe!

Good luck with the repairs ...

Just wondering people's thoughts on the stainless steel Ubolts....I am a Macinist and have dealt with a lot of different metals. Even with the different series of stainless, it is a softer steel compared to carbon steel. Does anyone have the stainless Ubolts and if so have you had any problems. |

I asked my trailer Guy about them and he said they were to soft......I went galvanized and put a bunch of paint on them before they met the salt water......
On another note.....what's the gestation period for trailers? Cause it looks like your gonna have a litter!!! |
Shoot just leave it like it is . ..
Sorry about your luck man I hate when things go wrong like that. |
man talk about a unbalanced load. how did it handle going down the road with all that weight on the back axle?

Hey Blue Chip, I feel your pain. I have had similar events happen. From ubolts breaking to blow outs on tires. I had a 25' boat w/ tandem axle trailer that had both rear tires blow out and was far from home. I jacked the axle up and tied it off. Made it home that way but it was a slow trip. As for your ubolt problem, pull off a good ubolt and bring it to UTEC in Lake Charles. They can match it for you. They carry all trailer parts. Several years ago, we were headed to Big Lake on a Sunday morning and had the bearings fall apart on a buddies trailer. I called UTEC (even though it was around 7:30 AM on a Sunday morning). The answering service connected me to a person on call, he met me at the store opened it and sold me the needed parts. Can't say enough good things about those guys or the service I received. I have bought all trailer associated parts from UTEC (in Lafayette) since then.

They guy who owns Bayou Wrecker lives right next to the 210 launch.

Stainless Steel is not as strong as galvanized steel. It is softer metal.
I wouldn't use them on the axles. Just for info sharing, I had an axle break on me in Lake Charles one time. I took my trailer winch and pulled the axle back in place and binded it with a motorcycle strap, but left the winch cable around the axle so it won't go back against the trailer again. I was able to go slow to launch the boat and tie it up to a dock till I got the trailer fixed. |
