Any suggestion

I'm thinking about taking the carpet off the front and back deck of my bay boat and paint it. Any suggestion on what kind of paint to use the fiber glass. Also would like to do the floor too. 17ft fiber glass bay boat.

Take the carpet off, then haul your boat to Lyle Johnson behind the Northgate Mall on Evergreen St. He is the best fiberglass guy in our area, and does the work for all the major insurance companies. He will shoot your floor after laying some gelcoat on it and it will be more afforadable than you think!!!! Will look a lot better than paint and last forever. Tell him "Foti" sent you, and you won't be disappointed!!

I painted the floor of a fiberglass boat with traffic marking paint. Looked good and was tough as nails.

BIRD DOG 09-29-2011 04:25 AM

It should be gelcoated unless you go with hydroturf or similiar material.

jldsc 09-29-2011 04:33 PM

you can coat it with a two part epoxy primer(gray) which is as tough as it gets..mix small batches, rolling it on and throw you a little sand in it as you coat it..absolutely the cheapest route, do-it-yourself way that will last as long as the boat will..You can go to a local auto-paint supply an ask for it in PPG.I covered my old kenner with this, it mixes 1-1 which was two usable gallons. Check out my thread "1990 18' kenner".

It was PPG Marine Coatings, Amercoat 137 Epoxy Primer..for an old boat all you need, unless you plannin on restoring it. CHEAP!

Not sure about that, but I stripped it down in an afternoon..during a twelve pack that evening had it buffed with a wire wheel(cup brush) on a 4 1/2 grinder..washed it out the next morning, coated it, and back together that evening. The only thing is you have to make sure you are ready to put it on cuz once you mix it, in warm temps., it sets up quick.

alphaman 09-29-2011 07:43 PM

The area I have isn't that big. But it looks better than carpet

Id just get rid of all the carpet and coat the whole inside..way easier to clean up after fishing..

alphaman 09-29-2011 08:16 PM

Coat it with the stuff u mentioned right. Anything to put on after that. Dont want to spend much. I'm selling it early year. I'm upgrading to a 21-22 ft. Boat.

yea..just put the epoxy on it...throw you a lil sand in there while you role it on and if you want you can put you a little splatter with any kind of white paint to break up the gray..its what I did.
