Sabine River

Anyone been on the Sabine lately? I have never fished over there but me and a buddy are planning a trip to try it out Saturday and I am looking for tips on areas and baits, we plan to put in at Nibblett's Bluff and head south, thanks Jason.

South end isn't too bad, down by orange. Never really tore into the north end

We have been fishing Sabine almost every weekend since Spring... South of I-10 will get you some good numbers, North of I-10 will be a little higher quality fish...

Keep in mind that the fishing regs have changed North of 10... Not sure how the fish cops will enforce this, but it will be interesting...

I am in a Shadowgrass G3, and will be launching at Nibblets Saturday AM... Gates open @ 0600, I normally use the North launch to not disturb the campers even though I head south... There is a no wake zone that extends a ways down once you launch so be aware of that also...

Send me a PM if you have any other questions...

trout and reds and bass down south, more bass up north.

bandit 100 series cranks. chromes with blue back or black backs have been good. tx rigs with craws and finesse worms will pull some fish too. have a pop-r handy too, lots of bait being chased on top. and dont forget a good ol doa in near clear of measels colors for down south.

OB covered the baits so I will give my best xsplanation on the new laws *...

"Sabine River" main channel from Toleder Bend Dam downstream to I-10 rule changes as follows:

Other species have changed, but lets just focus on Largemouth and Spotted Bass:

Largemouths went from no MLL (min legnth) and 10/day in aggregate with Spotted Bass to 14" MLL with an 8/day limit in aggregate with Spotted Bass.

Spotted Bass went from no MML and 10/day in aggregate with Largemouths to no MML and 8/day in aggregate with Largemouths...

How this will be enforced by the fish cops I dont know, but if you launch out of Nibblets and run down to the BOB and get stopped North of 10 on your way back it could make for some fine conversation with the DWF...

There are allot of Spots down there mixed in with some Largemouth pickles and could easily be mixed up so pay close attention to what goes in the icebox...

*If in doubt, always check with your local fish cop for "official" laws, what I have stated above came out of a Louisiana Huntin and Fishin magazine :D...

The press release stated "These changes will end the confusion if one drifts to the TX side", what a crock !!! I was always under the impression that you could fish any side of the "river", but not get off into a drain or bayou on the TX side... From what I read in the article, I was wrong and could have been voilated by the TX fish cops ...

Good thing I never, never, ever kept anything from that side of the river:rolleyes:...

The 14" deal was put on the basin after Hurricane Andrew and it jacked that fishery up... Finally there is some traction to remove that reg over there, just as its being implimented over here ???

Dont just rely on the tooth patch for the Spots, there are some largemouths that have it as well... Look where the jaw ends on the fish with their mouth closed. If its past the eye its a LM, if it ends beneath the eye its a Spot... Also, Spots will have smaller scales around its cheeks where the LM has the same scales from bumper to bumper...

And we needed another reg to clear things up !!!!
