Costa's

which ones are the best all around glasses?

calcutta37 10-12-2011 12:07 PM

I have 3 diff pair and like em all.

jdm4x43732 10-12-2011 12:09 PM

$12 Berkley from Wal-Mart. Kids can breakem and I won't cry, I've got 4 kids who are rough on all my equipment. lol

Montauk17 10-12-2011 12:22 PM

Try not to get one with alot of rubber around the frame and lens. I have two pairs of blackfin 580's and the rubber is coming off of both of em. Im bout to try out some of the flying fisherman glasses, cost about 70 bucks. Tired of spending money on something that dont last.

Jordan 10-12-2011 12:32 PM

i have 4 pair. I have a white pair of velas (i broke), tortoise velas with black 400 lenses (crappy while on the water), Brine tortoise with 580 green mirror (really like, but their my gf's) and a pair of Maya black frame with 400 black lenses (my everyday pair)

SaltyShaw 10-12-2011 12:33 PM

I was not to satisfied with the Flying Fisherman, just throwing that out there, went back to my Costa Corbinas quick

I've had the tortoise/green mirror 580 Brines for about a year and have no complaints . . .

7and7fish 10-12-2011 12:49 PM

I second the green 580 lenses, they are bada$$.... Just don't drop them on a tile floor...Cost me 60 bucks to have the lenses replaced (they sent me a brand new pair)

redroaster 10-12-2011 03:24 PM

Caballito frame with 580 lens

Send them back to Costa they will fix them .The rubber came off my fathoms and they fixed them just for the price of shipping. They used a harder rubber and it has lasted for about three years so far.

I have 4 pairs , Two pair Fathoms ( green mirror ,blue mirror),Triple Tail ( black 580), Maya ( green mirror)

My favorite is the Maya for fishing , I wear the Triple Tail when I hunt.
The green mirror I think is the best on the water ,at least for me .

SULPHITE 10-12-2011 03:54 PM

off topic but what lens color do you guys use for hunting???

Jedi Lure Tricks 10-12-2011 03:57 PM

i have costa tripletails blu mirror/grey glass 400's and trptail vermilion lens, no mirror 580's for sight fishing. the 580's are a much better lens than the 400, no doubt.

Yeh I would think amber lenses would be the best for duck hunting. Mirror would be no good cause they would flare em and they also make things alot darker. I bought some of those camovision glasses a few years back. Pretty cool. U look like a goober in em though!

BIG RED 1983 10-12-2011 04:07 PM

Maui Jim canoes or the long boards better than costas

I had some triple tails few years ago too. They vanished out my camp during teal season. Never saw em again. I got Corbinas and Permits. Like em both, but Corbinas are most comfortable Costas I have ever worn. Both 400s in tortoise shell with green mirror.

You gotta be more specific,I use em for deer hunting. I only duck hunt a few times a year.

mriguy 10-12-2011 07:28 PM

Have brine in tortoise/green mirror 400s. Love them

Sorry bud ;) I don't deer hunt just chase dem feathers!

bjhooper82 10-12-2011 08:44 PM

I've been thinking about buying a lair of costas. Are the 580's really worth the $$$$$???

youu_whoo_whoo 10-12-2011 09:16 PM

My personal oppinion is yes. I truly do like and enjoy my glasses. However, these are my first pair of "pricy" glasses so i have no others to compare it to. I have worn someones 400's on the water and my 580's are noticibly better on the water but wearing them everyday there is not much of a difference between 400s and 580s in your yard or driving.

Like Kenner said, I have sent 2 pair back and they replaced them. They may let you upgrade.

They say sunscreen is what causes this.

LPfishnTIM 10-12-2011 09:33 PM

I have two pairs of the flying fishermen, I have an amber lens and a amber/ green mirror, the green mirror/ amber lens sucks in the a.m. and have a pink tent instead of a real amber. I've wore WILEY X glasses in amber and they have a much better lens.

Dink 10-12-2011 10:53 PM

Old brine is awesome!! New brine sucks!! Arms flare way out, touchs ears

I duck hunt with my green mirror 580's. I usually remeber to take them off when I start working ducks. Those bright blue bird days are brutal sometimes though.. always keep them in my blind bag for sure though.

chasin'tail 10-13-2011 07:57 AM

Not as well known as costas, but Smith Optics makes better lenses than costas. I have both, and don't use the costas any more..Very good customer support.

Matt G 10-13-2011 10:17 AM

I had a pair of the Osprey with the 400 lenses and broke them while in Key West. I bought a pair of Brine with the 580 blue/green lenses within 10 minutes. The Brine or nice but I wish they still made the Osprey cause those things were awesome on the water.

evis102 10-13-2011 11:13 AM

I like the Costa Brine series with amber lens. Worth every penny.

Jordan 10-13-2011 11:17 AM

going to cost me $49 to get a new pair of frames.

BIRD DOG 10-13-2011 11:48 AM

Ive got two pairs of Fathoms blue with 580g,one for work and one for dress.I also have a pair of hammerheads blue with regular glass.I am extremely rough on my glasses and Costa ALWAYS fixes them! I even stepped on a pair I set down in a boat and they fixed them for cost of shipping. They actually just sent a new pair.If you buy Costas it will be the last pair you ever have to buy unless you loose them

mcjaredsandwich 10-13-2011 12:06 PM

I have a pair of fisch blue 580's...thinking about selling them and getting a different frame style. I love them, but want a different frame.

Hookem03 10-13-2011 02:53 PM

I have the Blackfins, with the amber lens. Work great in the shallows of them marsh for site fishing and bowfishing during the day. Had some truoble with the rubber piece coming off but a little super glue goes a long way. Takes to long to send them back.

longsidelandry 10-13-2011 03:01 PM

I have a set of Fathom's with the 'cheap' lenses that I wear when weed-eating & hunting and I have a pair of Man O' War's with the blue 580's and I wear these every day. I have had to send my Fathom's in once (rubber coming off) and Man O' War's 3 times (ring around the lenses, smashed lenses & broken arm). The Fathom's I only got charged shipping, as well as the ring around the lenses on the Man O' War's, smashed lenses was I believe $60 for new lenses and the broken arm was $20 and they replaced the entire frame instead of putting a new arm!

Good to know

jaclyn.renea 10-14-2011 04:32 PM

I have the Brines, as Pookie said, and I love them.
But Jordan has a big head...

Ducedux 10-14-2011 06:53 PM

Hunting the vermillion lenses are the best all around. I don't want a mirrored lense even in the blind. Ducks have too much in their favor already without holding up a mirror telling em where the blind is.
