Help with cleaning out mud boat runs!

Any info on who in the Grand Chenier area cleans out and deepens mud boat runs. Seems I remember a coupla guys who had a mud boat with a chopper on the front that did this type of work. Any help would be appreciated!

There are some boys in Lake Arthur that do it but I can't remember the name. They own a landscape company and clean ditches on the side. Having said that, if you have not done it yet it is probably too late and the water is too low to work. All the machines I have heard of need a minimum amount of water to be able to work.

Look up Hornsby lawn service in Lake Arthur.

Thanks for the info guys!

I have some specs on a piece of equipment you can build to plow your cuts. I have watched one work firsthand and it was amazing.

Haha just messin with ya....Both have their own ups and downs. I like the gator tail with the instant reverse.

speck-chaser 11-08-2011 10:23 PM

Just not too instant when stuck in the mud. LOl. Pro drive less than 3 seconds. Hehe

The new reverse plate they came out with recently helps that problem alot. My podna just put one on his and it is a night and day difference.

speck-chaser 11-08-2011 10:31 PM

What does the plate do?

Forces water/mud around the prop to prevent cavitation during reverse.

speck-chaser 11-08-2011 10:35 PM

Wanna put a jack plate on mine.

Never heard of a mud motor benefiting from a jack plate....not saying it won't,you know someone that tried it?

Capt.B 11-08-2011 10:39 PM

Call me old fashioned.....but surface drives are junk IMO....Go Devil is the way to go!!

speck-chaser 11-08-2011 10:42 PM

Surface drives are great for someone who has a decent boat ride and shallow water, long tails=slow but you'll get there

Had the fight of my life in my pond with a surface drive...it wouldn't move my boat @ all...I had to get out and pull my boat 150yds....also wind blew me at will....I had no control with the "short tail"= once again junk.....get the right prop on ya Go devil and you'll do 20mph....who wants to go any faster in tight shallow marsh trails in the dark......

Shawn Braquet 11-09-2011 07:49 AM

My 16hp is a dog on a 14/36 and crawls on a 15/48 but i dont worry about getting stuck as long as i have wet mud for the boat to slide on, when reproping who sells them other than go devil and what am i looking for size?

I can find out that info for ya....I wanna say we had to goto baton rouge to get props(best bang for buck) Will get back this evening and post info...

Shawn Braquet 11-09-2011 08:07 AM

Good deal

Raymond 11-09-2011 09:28 AM

Call Toups Propeller in abbeville, they are the best and build their own.

corym39 11-09-2011 09:32 AM

What Raymond said, toups just rebuilt my prop on my gatortail and made huge difference. Great work!!!

Capt. I'll have to agree with ya! Our marsh was covered with 2+ inches of sand after Rita/Ike. Kinda hard bottom...you can now walk the ponds. Pro drive last year would not get on plane within the ponds...had to fight it all the way out. We bought a new 24hp long tail this year...might be a little harder to work but will get us out of just about anything in our marsh.
I was thinking on running a big old mud boat through the trails but that hard bottom will wreck havoc on the shaft/prop. Perhaps going a little above idle speed and digging deep would do the trick but would take forever.....even thought about a marsh buggy w/ back hoe...$1,800+ a day...ouch!

Found out that info on the prop for ya go-devil...its a 9x6 and eats mud and hard bottoms up like candy....had to get from Go-Devil outta Baton Rouge....If you don't "own" a Go-Devil you'll have to research another vendor(they wont sell you parts).....Not worried abt being any where in the marsh....No problem Eva-ka Boudreaux'n out!!:D

Yeah those hard bottoms are a beast on props and shafts...I coulda shaved my beard clean with my old prop....razer sharp and missing 1"1/4 of stainless:shaking:

$1800 a day is steep...heck $3000 for a go-devil and ya good to go...and you don't have to worry abt silting....;)
